Bioactivity-guided fractionations of chloromethylenic extract of the roots of U. afzelii (Annonaceae), using Leishmania donovani and Trypanosoma brucei brucei bioassay, resulted in the isolation of the two known compounds, emorydone (1) and demethoxymatteucinol (2), previously isolated from the stems, which were characterised from this source. In addition, the novel 1-indanone, afzeliindanone (3), was also isolated. The structure determination of afzeliindanone (3) was elucidated on the basis of spectral data as 4-[4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl]-indan-1-one. This compound is the first 1-indanone derivative isolated from plants.
Les huiles essentielles de trois plantes aromatiques de Côte-d'Ivoire (Ocimum gratissimum, Ocimum canum, Monodora myristica) testées sur 14 bactéries ont révélé des activités bactéricides ou bactériostatiques. Les huiles essentielles de Ocimum canum et de Ocimum gratissimum agissent sur la quasi-totalité des bactéries étudiées.
Starch powders from two cultivars of Dioscorea rotundata (DR) were analysed on the physicochemical aspect. Granulometric structure, zeta potential and differential scanning calorimetry of starch powders showed the following properties. Various shapes with predominance of granule ranging from 10 to 40 μm were noted. The zeta potential of DR went from positive values to negative values as the pH was increasing from 2 to 8. From pH 2 to 4, the zeta potential was positive. A significant difference was obtained between each value (p > 0.05). The zeta potential took a negative value from pH 5 and above. The results of thermal analysis show that starches start swelling at 68.91.5 C. Enthalpy of gelatinization was about 15 J.g-1.
