Pregnancy poses unique challenges and increased risks during general anesthesia (GA), including hypoxia. Preoxygenation helps to mitigate the risk of hypoxia in parturient women during induction of GA. High-flow nasal oxygenation (HFNO) has been suggested to improve preoxygenation efficacy. While studies have been done on HFNO preoxygenation for parturient patients, none have looked at the benefit of HFNO for the same population undergoing rapid sequence induction (RSI) GA. This study compares preoxygenation using HFNO with the standard facemask (SFM) during RSI for parturients undergoing GA for cesarean delivery (CD).
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
