-Gait analysis is basically referred to study of human locomotion. From the surveillance point of view behavioral biometrics and recognition at a distance are becoming more popular in researchers rather than interactive and Physiological biometrics. In this paper, a time efficient Human gait identification system is proposed. Initially Human silhouettes are extracted by using temporal median background subtraction on video frames, which successfully removes shadows and models even complex background, proposed gait algorithm extracts contours from foreground silhouettes images and then three bounding boxes are drawn around contoured human image 1) upper part for arms movement 2) middle part for thigh and knee angles 3) Lower part for legs movement, knee and ankle angles. Gait cycles are extracted to find gait period and to take final decision for gait features selection, which is used for training. Thigh, Knee, Ankle angles and bounding boxes' widths are used as gait signatures but middle portion of human contains less variations of width in gait cycle hence computing efficiency can be achieved by ignoring width factor of middle part. SVM based training and identification is performed on extracted gait features. The proposed system is assessed using publicly available gait datasets and some indoor experimental videos created for this research work. The results reveal that the proposed algorithm is able to achieve an outstanding recognition rate.
The present study explores how 'CPEC' is covered and treated by the two eminent English newspapers The News (Pakistani Newspaper) and the People's daily (Chinese Newspaper) through their Facebook's official pages through the keyword search “China – Pakistan Economic Corridor” from the year 2015-19. The broader aspects, categories are formed; as development, economy, political, social, strategic and other, examined the treatment on their frequency and semantic network analysis on positive, negative and neutral frames through coding sheet. For this purpose, the quantitative content analysis is conducted to examine that how 'CPEC' is covered, framed and treated by the said newspaper at their official Facebook pages. The findings of the study reveal that 'China – Pakistan Economic Corridor' is projected significantly more strategic than economic on the posts appeared on the Chinese and Pakistani newspaper. The coverage appeared on The News is varied from positive, neutral and negative.
The study scrutinized the framing of blasphemy Case of Salman Taseer and Mumtaz Qadri by leading English press of Pakistan. The study discovered the editorial policies of English newspapers of Pakistan, on framing the issue through during the selected timeline. For evaluating relevant content of the news, purposive methods of sampling have been used. The study explored the framing of execution of Mumtaz Qadri and reaction of different political and religious groups to his execution in selected newspapers. It also investigates all prospect of framing theory that were closer to the study and which questions about how different editorial policies were used to frame the selected issue. To analyzing the content five frames; Attribution of having Responsibility frame, public Interest frame, Clash frame, Morality frame, and Harmony frame were constructed respectively.
The article is intended to compare and analyze the media discourse in the editorials of two daily English newspapers of Pakistan in the context of one of the most controversial antiterrorist operation which is named as the Osama Bin Laden (OBL) operation. For this purpose editorials of two leading English newspapers of Pakistan i.e., Dawn and The News were selected from 3rd May, 2011, to 26th August, 2011. Moreover, the current study employed the method of critical discourse analysis and has also studied the theoretical notion of agenda setting and framing. Results reveal that The News used very strong, rather harsh vocabulary during the editorial coverage of OBL operation. Whereas, Dawn adopted literary phrases and less harsh tone to cover OBL operation. Also, editorials of both the newspapers constructed similar frames such as “failure of military establishment” and “security lapse” throughout the coverage of OBL operation
The current study was carried out on framing the ongoing debate on the inter-relationship which exists between social media and traditional media news coverages. Its particular focus is to analyze how both mediums focus on their topic selection when it comes to prioritizing an issue to be presented at the top. By employing the content analysis technique of the Facebook posts and newspaper articles the study tried to sort out to what extent differences exist in traditional media and social media coverage with respect to the selection of the topic in Pakistan. The researchers used Chi-square tests to weigh up the use of alternative media and the frame selection of social media in the selected timeline. The study concluded that social media and traditional media react differently when covering social issues. Social media showed better interaction patterns on grass root issues whereas traditional media focused more on covering political issues.
