Pantothenate kinase-associated neurodegeneration (PKAN) is a rare disorder associated with brain iron accumulation caused by a recessive mutation in pantothenate kinase 2 gene (PANK2). We present a case of an 11 year-old boy presenting extrapyramidal signs and developmental regression. T2-weighted images showed the classic eye of the tiger sign seen in pantothenate kinase-associated neurodegeneration.
Traumatic appendicitis is often mis or underdiagnosed due to its extreme rarity. How does your research contribute to the field? My research highlights the causal link between trauma and acute appendicitis especially in pediatric population and demonstrates that displacement of appendicolith remains the frequent mechanism.
Placenta percreta is the most severe and least common form of placental insertion abnormalities. The increasing frequency of C-Section deliveries has led to more of these abnormalities. Ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) have a key role in diagnosing these abnormal adherences since it shows best transmural extension of the placental tissue. We report a case of a woman with a previous cesarean delivery who had been diagnosed with a placenta preavia on ultrasound and a suspicion of transmural extension with her MRI later showing a placenta percreta.
Introduction: Chilaiditi's sign was first described in 1910 by a Greek radiologist, Demetrius Chilaiditi. It is defined by the interposition of a part of the colon between the liver and the right hemidiaphragm. The incidence is estimated at 0.025-0.28%. Case Report: We report the case of a 65-year-old male patient, with history of functional colopathy for several years with constipation since 10 days. Clinical examination showed a breathless patient with a painful and distended abdomen. Abdominal-pelvic computed tomography (CT) showed Chilaiditi's sign. After four days of symptomatic treatment, he was discharged from hospital completely asymptomatic. Conclusion: The recognition of the radiological evidence of pneumoperitoneum and pseudopneumoperitoneum is important to prevent unnecessary procedures, such as an exploratory laparotomies.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
