A 73-year-old woman presented with numerous cutaneous neurofibromas on the trunk in a bilateral dermatomal distribution (T2-T12). She also had multiple lentigines scattered on the left side of the trunk, affecting the T2-T12 dermatomes. The diagnosis of bilateral segmental neurofibromatosis (NF) was made on the basis of the clinical features and distribution of the neurofibromas and an absence of family and systemic involvement. The pattern of lentigines was consistent with that of partial unilateral lentiginosis (PUL). Bilateral segmental NF is rare and 15 cases had been reported in the literature so far. This is the first reported case of a patient with bilateral neurofibromas and PUL.
The occurrence of vitiligo with prodromal erythema in Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH) disease is rarely observed. We describe a 68-year-old Chinese woman who developed extensive vitiligo 6 months after the onset of a generalized erythroderma and 12 months after the onset of acute bilateral uveitis. She also had a 4-year history of psoriatic plaques on the trunk which resolved completely without recurrence 15 months after the onset of erythroderma. The extensive cutaneous inflammation prior to the onset of vitiligo in our patient with VKH disease has not been reported before and strongly suggests an immunologic etiology for VKH disease.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
