Online news publication had undergone revolutionary changes since the fall of Berlin Wall, 09 November 1989. When Malaysian Government regulated the Movement Control Order (MCO) beginning 18 March 2020 till 03 January 2022 to curb the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, the impact of online news reading became much more significant. This phenomena has brought massive implications to media audience, predominantly among university students – of which, utilizing most of the online news material for their academic references. The online news became major reading materials for the university students in deriving latest information, especially on COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, this study was conducted to identify its implications, news preferences, and satisfaction levels. This purposive random quantitative study had been conducted by disseminating questionnaires via online, due to the restriction of movements. A total of 400 respondents were involved in this study, and interesting findings had been discovered. The study was purposively focused on random public university students within The Klang Valley, due to the fact that students from these universities had been the nation’s catalyst of change ever since. Conclusively, this paper provides significant insights for media practitioners and consumers in developing pertinent strategies for better maneuvering such challenges in our digital future.
Public Relations (PR) is nothing new to the present day global community. In fact, mankind had exercised PR since the day they first decided to live together. Since then, an essential beacon of wisdom in the history of mankind was planted. The birth of the modern PR began in 1948 when the Public Relations Society of America and the Institute of Public Relations in Britain were founded. Today, the influence of this communication field has engulfed almost all professions of global organizations. Majority of these organizations apply the PR principles and practices into their organizational structures. This paper begins with the historical backgrounds of the international PR culture, studies, and definitions. From there, the discussion penetrates deeper into the realm of the Malaysian PR culture. This analysis deals with many aspects of the PR, i.e. professional ethics, social and legal contracts, aimed at giving a considerably critical understanding of the Malaysian PR culture, which differs in definitions and practices. At the end of this paper, readers are presented with an overview of contemporary threats and challenges facing the field. This concept paper deals with the past, the present, and the future uncertainties of the PR field. Whether we are aware or not, PR today has been tremendously used for managing social stress in view of globalization. Yet, the forces of tolerance and brotherhood grant the country confidence in facing future challenges and threats. Indeed, the world of global PR is changing inconsiderately. Come what may, Malaysian has chosen to toughen up for a journey of her own in the wake of PR uncertainties.
In the earlier days of politics, youths were apathetic in the field of politics as the culture of politics was more suited to the older generation. This is because the older generation had more opportunities to cast partisan votes and developed stronger affiliations to the party for which they voted. However, with the ability to access information and engage online for everyone, this heterogeneous culture has given Malaysian youths a new and tangible existence in the scene of politics. Therefore, the purposes of this study is to explore the issues faced by youths in politics, how can aspiring politicians communicate effectively with youths today and to understand how does political communication work in youth circles. The study interviewed fifteen respondents, which all of them were university students between the ages of 18 and 35. The data collection strategy was an in-depth interview followed by a semistructured interview protocol. Through the thematic analysis, this study found that there are still barriers surrounding politics, which are age, experience, and general perception between old and new politicians, including education, which seems to be a recurring topic. Furthermore, this research also spotted out that females do not have a significant share of voice in politics. This has concluded that the youth political environment remains an undeveloped area in Malaysia.
Psycholinguistics is a knowledge field that describes speech processes while a person speaks. Besides that, this field also study how human acquire speaking ability to extend of influencing the listener or reader. The field also play as the medium to connect language function with human thoughts. Social psycholinguistic is a subtopic in psycholinguistic field that relates basic mentality and society, between psychology, linguistic and social discipline. Social psycholinguistic is not only discussing about language aspect, but also about the relation of social language aspect. The researcher will carry out a study on the psycholinguistic influences in the Batu Bersurat Machap Melaka 1907 interpretation. The objective of this study is to identify and analyse social psycholinguistic influence in the Batu Bersurat Machap Melaka interpretation. Batu Bersurat Machap is one of the research materials and the researcher uses content analyse method to find the data. The findings show that there are social psycholinguistic influences in the interpretation of Batu Bersurat Machap especially from their belief aspect that has been practiced by Malay society especially in the use of 'keramat' and 'pelaris' in their business.
