Giant hydronephrotic kidney is a rare form of obstructive uropathy in adolescents. We report a 19 year old girl with huge abdominal distention secondary to hydronephrotic kidney. The cystic swelling occupied whole of the abdominal cavity with other structures being compressed. She presented with progressive distention of abdomen with early satiety. Subsequently ultrasonological and CT scan evaluation revealed a giant hydronephrosis of right kidney occupying almost whole abdomen. Such presentation of PUJ obstruction is rare. We present this case in which percutaneous nephrostomy with slow decompression was done as initial treatment to relieve symptoms and prevent complications.
The purpose of this study is to study the feasibility and outcome of laparoscopic uterus preserving repair of vesicouterine fistula in female patients presenting with urinary incontinence and gross cyclical hematuria following a cesarean delivery. Materials and Methods: It was a retrospective study that included 5 patients of vesicouterine fistula admitted to our hospital. The patients were given a conservative trial before taking up them for surgical repair. Laparoscopic repair was performed 6 months after the cesarean delivery. Uterus was preserved in all cases. Results: The average operative time was 130.6 minutes. There were no major perioperative complications. The average hospital stay was 3.6days. There was no failure and patients were made catheter free after 14 days of surgery. Two of our patients had conceived and successfully completed pregnancy after repair of fistula. Conclusion: Laparoscopic uterus preserving repair of vesicouterine fistula appears to be feasible procedure with good results.
Sequestrum formation is a known complication of osteomyelitis. This is usually a source of chronic non resolving infection and inflammation. We present a rare case of pelvic sequestrum following septic arthritis of hip joint invading into the urinary bladder mimicking a bladder calculus and leading to hydroureteronephrosis.
