The authors report a rare combination of definite moyamoya disease and brain arteriovenous malformation (AVM) presenting with primary subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) unheard of in the literature. The authors review the radiographic findings of this unique case with a brief review of literature.
Alcohol ablation is an accepted technique for the management of arteriovenous malformations. It is preferred due to the unique property of absolute alcohol to cause complete ablation and prevention of revascularisation. However, this technique is associated with multiple complications which may lead to patient morbidity. Here the case is presented of a female patient with scalp arteriovenous malformation who underwent alcohol ablation and developed supraventricular arrhythmia accompanied with haemodynamic instability and intravascular haemolysis in the postoperative period.
Mediastinal hydatid cyst is very rare and has been only anecdotally reported in the literature. Because of surrounding vital structures, the cyst should be treated without delay, surgery being the mainstay of treatment. Here we report a case of hydatid cyst of the mediastinum which was managed by trans-thoracic aspiration followed by albendazole therapy.
