This study was performed out to investigate the influence of the mixed application of chemical fertilizer (CF) and liquid swine manure (LSM) on the growth characteristics, dry matter yield, amino acids, minerals, and free sugars in cultivating silage corn on paddy soils. The field experiment was designed in a randomized block design of 3 repetitions with CF 100% treatment (C), CF 70% + LSM 30% treatment (T1), CF 50% + LSM 50% treatment (T2), CF 30% + LSM 70% treatment (T3), and LSM 100% treatment (T4). At this time, the application of LSM was based solely on the nitrogen. Ear length, ear circle, stem diameter, and stem hardness of the silage corn did not show significant differences between treatments. Fresh yield, dry matter yield and TDN yield were highest in T3, whereas the lowest in C treatment (p<0.05). Crude protein, crude fat, and crude ash content were significantly higher in T1, C, and T4 treatment, respectively (p<0.05). However, NDF, ADF and crude fiber content did not show significant difference between treatments. The total mineral content decreased significantly (p<0.05) as the LSM application rate increased. Total composition amino acid content was higher in the order of T1 > T2 > C > T4 > T3 treatment (p<0.05). Free sugar content was higher in the order of T1 > T3 > T4 > T2 > C treatment (p<0.05). Based on the above results, suggests that the mixed application of chemical fertilizer 30 50% and LSM 50~70% (T2 and T3) is the most effective, considering the yield performance and the content of sugar degree and free sugar affecting silage.
In the present study, the effects of feeding different forage sources on the growth performance, meat production and meat quality of Hanwoo steers were evaluated using meta-analysis. In total 5 studies that were performed and published in the domestic journals in Korea were employed for the analysis. The results from nutritionally better quality roughage-based steers and rice straw-based steers in each study were assigned as a treatment and a control, respectively, and the mean difference between the treatment and the control was used for the evaluation of effect size. The summary effect was calculated using random effect model. As results, in growth performance, positive effects were found in feed intake, daily weight gain, final body weight and feed efficiency. The significant effect was found only in daily weight gain (p<0.05). In meat production, carcass weight, Longissimus dorsi area, yield index showed positive effect and negative effect was detected in back fat thickness. The significant effect in meat production was found in carcass weight and Longissimus dorsi area (p<0.05). In meat quality, positive effects were represented in marbling score and fat color. Meat color showed little effect. The significance for effects was not observed in the analysis of meat quality. In conclusion, feeding good quality forages to ruminants plays an important role in Korean beef cattle industry and hence further researches are necessary to improve the efficiency of forage utilization in Hanwoo cattle.
This study was carried out to investigate the growth characteristics, yield and chemical compositions of corn hybrids for silage according to ridging times in the paddy field cultivation. The experimental design was arranged in a randomized block design with five treatments and three replication. The ridging times of five treatments were untreated (C), 7 leaves (T1: 31 days), 8 leaves (T2: 37 days), 9 leaves (T3: 42 days) and 10 leaves stage (T4: 48 days after sowing) of silage corn. The ridging treatments (T1, T2, T3, T4) were higher (p<0.01) dry matter yield and TDN yield than the unridging treatment (C). However, there were no significant differences among T1, T2, T3 and T4 treatments. The Crude protein content of unridging treatment was decreased (p<0.01), while NDF content was increased (p<0.01) compared to ridging treatments. The contents of mineral and amino acid in ridging treatments were higher than unridging treatment (p<0.05, p<0.01). In particular, mineral and amino acid contents were the highest in T4 and T1, respectively (p<0.01). Based on the above results, ridging work is to be increased the yield quantity and nutritional value of silage corn. And the best result was obtained in T4 treatment of ridging treatments.
