The increase in the number of older people over the years lead to consequences that need to address, including the psychological well-being issues. Religious activities is one of the alternatives to prevent these problems. One of the religious activities that is participated frequently by Muslim in Indonesia, particularly in Solo, is pengajian. This research objective was to describe the benefits of older people's involvement in pengajian. The characteristics of the informans were individuals aged 60 years or older, engange to pengajian, and live in Solo. The data was collected using semi-structured interview. The results showed that the activities that were done on pengajian were listening to religious speech; reading Al-Qur'an (tadarus); learning As-Sunnah; learning tajweed; learning and discussing tafsir (the message on Qur'an); inviting and donating to orphans; and praying (dua). Older people who participated in pengajian did not only obtain spiritual benefit (having new religious knowledges) but also gained social benefits (maintaining good relationships wtih others, having more friends, and sharing the knowledge), as well as, received psychological benefits (being pleased). This study also emphasized that, for some informants, spiritual and social benefits also could lead to psychological benefits.
The time-span of completing the minor thesis in Indonesian undergraduate programs has been one of the significant issues in higher education accreditation and quality insurance. Therefore, it is important to assess the possible determinants such as gender, research approach, and type of research, which might effect the students’ completion period of minor thesis (Skripsi). This study used quantitative approach and involved 719 university students. The data was collected from the Faculty database from 2014 to 2017 and Mann Whitney U test and Crosstab analysis were applied to analyze the data. The result of this study showed that gender and research approach did not significantly contribute to the students’ minor thesis completion period. Additionally, students who chose independent research, as their type of research, were able to finish their Skripsi faster than those who conducted joint research.
This study aimed to understand what activities could be done by older Indonesian who are physically sick and how those activities can make them feel happy. It was a qualitative study conducted in the Surakarta, Central Java, Indonesia. A total of 6 older people aged >60 years and suffering from the chronic disease were selected for this study. The data were collected by an in-depth interview. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis with the help of the NVivo 12 QSR program. Older people with chronic disease were still able to be active in worship, socializing with the surrounding environment, working, doing the daily chores, and doing older people gymnastic. The benefit of staying engaged in the activity, including the ability to feel happy, be motivated to get a reward, exchange ideas, and share experience, help others, be calm, and have good health. This study emphasized the importance of being engaged in activities for older people to achieve happiness even though there had poor health status.
This study aims to describe the problem, the form of optimism, and influential factors of optimism on elder people who experienced loss of the loved ones. This study used quantitative-phenomenology with the data collection used semi-structured interviews. The informants were recruited using purposive sampling technique with the total of five elder widows in Sragen. The data was analyzed using thematic analysis. The information record, member-checking, and data delivery were implemented to maintain data validity and objectivity. The results show that the problem after the loss including the feel of loss, decrease of economic condition, loneliness, and health degradation. In overcoming the problems, they were not easily give up and despair, always accept the changes, and have a good hope on their life events. These ability occured because of the willingness to bounce back, attention and support from the closest people. The importance of optimism lead to a motivation from inside the elder widow to rise up and have positive thoughts on life problems they experienced.
Menghadapai era 4.0, lansia mengalami lebih banyak tantangan dan berbagai permasalahan baik dari segi fisik, psikologis, dan sosial. Salah satu pengurus perkumpulan posyandu di Gatak, Pabelan, Sukoharjo menyatakan bahwa banyak lansia kebanyakan dari mereka tinggal bersama anak-anaknya. Namun keluargapun memiliki aktivitas sendiri sehingga terkadang kurang memberikan perhatian yang cukup untuk lansia. Komunikasi diantara lansia dan keluarga pun kurang intensif. Selain itu, lansia di daerah ini juga kebanyakan bekerja sehingga frekuensi dan intensitas berkomunikasi dengan keluarga juga berkurang. Hal ini tentunya, jika tidak dikelola dengan baik, akan mengurangi kualitas hubungan keluarga dan lansia. Alternatif solusi untuk menstimulasi kesadaran saling memahami antar keluarga dan lansia akan diberikan melalui penyuluhan terhadap 10 lansia dan keluarga yang mendampingi. Kegiatan sejenis sangat dipelukan untuk memberikan pemahaman kepada lansia dan keluarga terkait pentingnya memberikan pengertian dan dukungan satu sama lain. Lebih lanjut, lansia dan keluarga dapat lebih memahami tantangan-tantangan individu usia lanjut dan bagaimana harus menghadapinya.
