This paper focuses on the representation of German urban peripheries in Turkish-German contemporary urban fiction. Through the analysis and comparison of two novels written by contemporary German novelists with Turkish origins – Der die Träume hört (2019) by Selim Özdogan and Hawaii (2020) by Cihan Acar – this contribution is aimed at investigating how the Turkish-German community deals with life in real and fictional German urban margins as spaces where new forms of citizenship and ways of urban living take shape and how the geographical-literary depictions of this urban peripheral framework are related to issues such as feelings of loss, exclusion, abandonment, desire to escape, personal redemption and racial hatred.

Il contributo è dedicato al tema della creatività urbana e si concentra su due esperienze particolari nella città di Berlino. A partire da un’indagine svolta sul campo presso gli urban garden di Tempelhofer Feld e Prinzessinnengärten, questo lavoro ha l’obiettivo di riflettere sulle potenzialità di esperienze messe in atto dalle classi creative in relazione al tema della gentrification. Sulla base di quanto rilevato in tali avamposti della sostenibilità urbana, si cercherà, pertanto, di delineare un quadro generale dell’esperienza green berlinese, come uno dei segni del mutamento dell’urbanità in questa città.

Talking about Greece nowadays does not only mean becoming aware of the immense cultural, social, and linguistic heritage which characterizes the country, but also accepting the huge change which is affecting the nation. The paper focuses on the international cinematographic account on Greece in order to explore the spectrum of non-Greek visions concerning Greek life, history, culture, and traditions. The work is aimed – through the analysis of both American and Italian movies – at outlining stereotypes and authentic elements of the foreign movie industry’s representation of “Greekness”, browsing some of its most typical leitmotifs. In this respect, noteworthy examples are: the ancient myth; the brutality of war; the cultural misappropriation; the tourism business. The article deals with these issues in an attempt to define possible future developments and points for reflection.
