Problem: The new National Curriculum Guidelines of Undergraduate Medicine in Brazil propose that academics have contact with the health system and its users at an early stage. However, practical activities in undergraduate courses proved to be insufficient for the adequate development of this new perspective. Consequently, the experiences of university extension have the proposal to fill in this gap. Method: This article aimed to report the experiences of the scholarship holders of the Extension Project in Family and Community Medicine - ProMFC (Projeto de Extensão em Medicina de Família e Comunidade) under the More Doctors for Brazil Program – PMMB (Programa Mais Médicos para o Brasil). This is a qualitative, experience-type study with lexical and content analysis from the software IRaMutTeQ, version 0.7 alpha 2, to establish an association between the terms used in the discourse of the ProMFC. Results: The opportunity to immerse in environments in which students can learn about the problems and share the daily life of the assisted community was highlighted. The exchange of knowledge and experiences among students, physicians working in Primary Health Care (fellows of the PMMB, supervisors and tutors) and local managers was also relevant, as well as the students’ ability to develop/train skills, such as teamwork, assertive communication, and health planning. Conclusion: The PMMB, tutored and integrated into an extension project, the ProMFC, is an alternative that, although embryonic, has many potentialities, as it allows the extensionists to be early inserted into the Attention Primary Health Care.
In the current situation related to 2019-nCoV β-coronavirus, the National Health Authorities have determined the elaboration of contingency plans (CP) that minimize the contagion and allow the functioning of essential activities. The CP presented defines a set of guidelines that allow the adequacy of the response of a public university in Northeast of Brazil linked to the Programa Mais Médicos para o Brasil. Descriptive and qualitative study, type of comment, from the analysis of the data of the CP for the definition of strategies for coping with public health emergencies. The CP consists of ten measures that include assistance via applications/social networks; monitoring of physicians who are at risk; screening of suspected/confirmed cases; production of guides/protocols; 24h psychological/technical assistance to physicians working at primary health care and provision of online courses. The methodology proposed provides different models from those trivially presented in academia and is essential to promote health education.
Childhood obesity is a nutritional disorder considered a serious public health problem worldwide because it is responsible for a large part of the emergence of chronicdegenerative diseases and, consequently, raises the levels of morbidity and mortality. The beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic contributed to the increase in the rates of this comorbidity, as the established transmission containment measures led to a reduction in physical activity, an increase in screen time and anxiety-related disorders. Thus, the Healthy Lifestyle at School extension project, developed at the Faculty of Medicine of the Federal University of Cariri (UFCA), whose objective is to act in the identification, prevention and treatment of overweight and obesity in children and adolescents, recognized the need adapting face-to-face activities to the remote context. An account was created on the social network Instagram in order to alert about the problem and with the objective of reaching the target audience through educational, preventive and control measures against childhood obesity. The study is a qualitative analysis, of the experience report type, based on data obtained between April and September of the year 2020 on the Project's social media page. It can be seen from this study that the challenge for extension projects to remain as guides for good health practices and remote knowledge production showed satisfactory results with the use of the social network as a tool for health promotion and education.
