POLINET and HUMANET are telecommunication networks which are customized versions of the Delphi Information Utility, General Videotex Corporation, Cambridge, MA. POLINET and HUMANET, both part of the SCHOLARNET project, are solely owned by North Carolina State University, and offer social scientists and humanists a wide variety of electronic services such as those found on most information utilities (e.g., The Source, CompuServe). Some of these services include electronic mail, online newsletters, forums, teleconferencing, online polling, and file transfer. POLINET and HUMANET are available via local area telephone service on the public data networks TYMNET and UNINET, with local call access in over 500 U.S. cities, and over 64 foreign countries. POLINET and HUMANET were designed by social scientists and humanists, and include special features related to the disciplines of political science, public administration, criminal justice, and the humanities.One of the most useful features available on both POLINET and HUMANET is the file transfer capability.
