This study revealed that PMCs were mainly viewed favourably by children and their parents. Clinicians who have been reluctant to use this restorative approach may be encouraged by these findings. However, communication and clinical expertise are paramount in ensuring children and parents have positive treatment experiences and attitudes towards PMCs.
The cases described in this paper both exhibited gingival recession defects labial to their mandibular incisors caused by their traumatic Class II division 2 malocclusions. One patient was treated simply with upper arch fixed appliance therapy, the second with surgical orthodontics. On completion of treatment, both patients displayed significant healing of their gingival recession defects without any periodontal surgery being undertaken. These cases highlight the importance of diagnosing the aetiology of the gingival recession defects to ensure referral to the appropriate dental specialty and the instigation of the most effective treatment.
