This study was carried out to analyze knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) of Dentists of Aligarh and Mathura regarding the Covid-19 pandemic. This cross-sectional study used a 16-item pre-tested and validated questionnaire based on the Covid 19 pandemic, which was then disseminated through the internet to all dentist members of the Indian Dental Association, Aligarh and Mathura during November, 2020 . The 'General part-A' of the questionnaire covered the individuals' socio-demographic and professional informations (age, gender, educational status, type of practice etc.). Part B comprised of 16 questions pertaining to COVID-19 knowledge, attitudes, and practises. A total of 260 dentists participated in the survey. The study included a higher percentage of females, BDS, and practitioners with fewer than 10 years of expertise. The participants' average knowledge, attitude, and practise score was 13.21 ±1.67. In the current study, socio demographic factors such as gender, educational level, experience in dentistry, and professional affiliation were found to have statistically significant (p 0.05) relationships with mean knowledge. Although there were notable deficiencies in some key areas, the results of this investigation revealed that the majority of the subjects had adequate knowledge, a positive attitude, and took precautions when dealing with patients, although there were notable deficiencies in some key areas. As a result, ongoing educational initiatives/webinars should be planned on a regular basis.
Objective: To identify the potential determinants of tobacco counseling implementation among oral health professionals in India. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional survey was carried out among the 298 dentists of Aligarh and Gwalior. The questionnaire used in the study had sections on dentists' sociodemographic data and a 35-item questionnaire to assess the potential determinants of tobacco cessation counseling. Descriptive statistics were carried out, and a Chi-square test was utilized to determine the association. P-value <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: Domains "knowledge", "Professional Responsibility and Identity", and "Remembrance, awareness, and judgment" showed a statistically significant correlation with most tobacco cessation counseling behaviors. In addition, undergraduate education received in Tobacco Cessation counseling, and Continuing education received in Tobacco Cessation counseling had significantly impacted the practice of tobacco cessation counseling (p=0.02 and 0.04, respectively). Conclusion: This study suggests that "Knowledge", "Professional Responsibility and Identity" and "Remembrance, awareness, and judgment" are the potential determinants that could be used to design effective strategies to enhance tobacco counseling among dentists in India.
Background: In India, bidi smoking is prevalent among people of low socioeconomic status as it is cheaper than a cigarette. Aim: The aim of the current study was to analyze the pattern of distribution of oral and oropharyngeal cancer in bidi smokers in the Western Uttar Pradesh population. Materials and Methods: This unicentric cross-sectional study was conducted on patients having an exclusive habit of bidi smoking in the tertiary health care center from March 2019 to February 2022. Five hundred and eighty-five patients diagnosed with oropharyngeal or oral cancer, who were willing to share information related to the bidi smoking habit were enrolled. A Chi-square test and unpaired t-test were used for the statistical analysis. Results: The base of the tongue was found to be the most common site of oral cancer. It was our observation that 61.75% of men had cancer in the oropharynx, and about 34.8% had cancer in the oral cavity. Conclusion: Bidi smoke is dangerous and contains many carcinogenic agents. Bidi smokers have an increased risk of oropharyngeal cancer as compared to oral cancer.
