In this work, the authors discuss the implementation details of SuMegha Scientific Cloud Lab Kit, which enables users to set up their own private scientific cloud. The scientific cloud offers infrastructure, platform, and/or software services for the scientific community working on problems of modeling and simulation. It enables the creation of virtual clusters (High Performance Computing as a Service). The lab kit is very useful to the researchers and the student community, who want to set up a cloud, but lack the expertise to do so. It not only helps to effectively utilize the idle computers in the organization, but also provides MPI or Hadoop based clusters on demand to its users to solve compute-data intensive problems. The fact that the Cloud can be set up in a single desktop can greatly aid in adoption of Cloud Computing, since almost anyone can now establish a cloud in their premises. SuMegha is designed in a modular fashion using a judicious mix of open source and in-house developed components, such as Nimbus cloud middleware for virtual cluster creation (contextualization), Xen hypervisor and SuMegha Portal for enabling users to request the virtual machines/ clusters and other Services. Storage as a service is provided by the in-house developed CloudVault solution integrated into the lab kit. Supplemented with Software as a Service such as Seasonal Forecast Model (SFM), Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), etc., SuMegha Cloud Lab kit offers a comprehensive environment for scientific computing. We believe that this lab kit is very useful to the vast number of academic institutions, to easily set up the required Cloud Lab.
There are thousands of organizations and large corporates involved in research and product development, which generate a huge number of different varieties of intellectual properties (IPs). Once these organizations reach a certain level of maturity, it becomes very important to organize and categorize different IPs. In this paper, we describe C-DAC Cloud IP Store, which is a SaaS (Software as a Service) repository for the intellectual properties generated by an organization. This SaaS can be accessed through the Internet or the intranet, through a web-based graphical user interface. In the current version, it allows to store and index the patents, publications, software, trademarks and copyrights generated in the organization. Cloud IP Store allows storage, tracking, modifying, retrieving and searching of IPs. Role-based privileges for different categories of users are supported, that can be enabled or disabled. Multiple versions of Software IPs can coexist in the Cloud IP Store as the SaaS offers a versioning mechanism/ version control feature; we believe that this software will be of immense use to organizations to build on their abilities and strengths. The OpenStack Swift-based cloud storage is provided in the backend. The cloud technologies employed in this SaaS enables the scalability of storage, increased availability, fault tolerance, and ubiquitous access from anywhere in the world, all of which are critical to efficient utilization of this tool to improve organization-level productivity.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
