The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has forced marketing educators to innovate and adapt their existing teaching methods. This article presents and discusses an experiential learning exercise called the market-immersion project (MIP) and how it was adapted to suit online teaching. The MIP was an integral part of the course on the “bottom-of-the-pyramid (BOP) and rural markets,” which had to be pivoted as a photoessay exercise due to the limitations of not being able to venture out for a physical immersion. The design, implementation, and grading are elaborated for both exercises, and lessons are identified for marketing educators. Building on the lessons from two experiential learning exercises and using Kolb’s experiential learning theory, a six-step model of short-term field immersion is proposed. The proposed framework could be useful for marketing educators who want to use experiential exercises, including field-based exercises, in their courses in the postpandemic scenario. Finally, implications for theory, marketing education, limitations, and future directions are presented.
Wandering spleen is a rare condition in which the spleen is hypermobile due to laxity or lack of its supporting ligaments. It can be located anywhere in the abdomen besides its usual position. The other terms that are used to describe this condition are splenic ptosis, displaced spleen, dislocated spleen and ectopic spleen. Splenic torsion is a dreaded complication and the usual cause of symptoms. There is a high chance of missing the diagnosis as it remains asymptomatic or may be incidentally discovered on radio-imaging done for a different purpose. An acute abdomen is the most common presentation. Here we describe an unusual case presenting with torsion of the wandering spleen that was adherent to the right ovary.
PurposeThe objective of the study is to understand the reasons for the resilience of rural periodic markets. Small retailers patronise these markets, and by identifying the reasons for their continued market participation, an attempt has been made to explain the continued existence of these traditional evolved retail agglomerations.Design/methodology/approachA qualitative research design was adopted for the study. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 35 small retailers, and responses were used to identify the reasons for their continued market participation. A mix of purposeful and snowball sampling was used to select the respondents.FindingsIn a novel endeavour, this study presents rural periodic markets as an evolved retail agglomeration. It identifies six factors responsible for the continued participation of small retailers in these markets. Seven attributes of the rural periodic market, an evolved retail agglomeration, were also identified which contribute to the resilience of these markets.Research limitations/implicationsThis study contributes to the literature on retail agglomerations and identifies the reasons for the continued market participation of small retailers, suggesting some trends about their future in emerging economies.Social implicationsRural periodic markets have affected the overall well-being of surrounding villages by providing opportunities to participate in many ways. This has been identified as a reason for the economic growth of the area.Originality/valueTo the best of our knowledge, this is one of the first studies to explore the resilience of periodic markets from the perspective of small retailers by identifying the reasons for their continued market participation.
Background: Though Granulosa cell tumors (GCTs) are the most common ovarian sex cord stromal tumors, they are very rare in extra ovarian sites with a handful of cases reported in retroperitoneum, broad ligament, fallopian tube, mesentery and even in the adrenals. Female Adnexal Tumor of probable Wolffian Origin (FATWO), which is also a very rare tumor comes up as its closest differential because of a significant overlap of topographic, morphologic, and immunohistochemical (IHC) features. Case Summary: Present case is of a post-menopausal female who complained of abdominal swelling and post-menopausal bleeding. On CT, she was shown to have a broad ligament mass (fibroid) which was excised. On histopathological reporting the tumor showed mainly the lesser known morphological variants of GCT that lead to difficulty in reaching at the exact diagnosis and a differential of an extraovarian GCT [eGCT] vs. FATWO was given which on IHC finally turned out to be an eGCT. Conclusion: Broad ligament is the site of two very rare tumors of the female genital tract, i.e. eGCT and FATWO which are close mimickers of each other not only on topography, but also on morphology and immunohistochemistry. Hence distinguishing between these two entities may be quite challenging for a pathologist, but aid of certain features can be taken to arrive at the diagnosis many a times.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
