Summary Karyomorphological studies have been carried out in 2 species of the genus Wrightia. The somatic chromosome numbers 2nϭ22 and 2nϭ20 were recorded for W. tomentosa and W. tinctoria, respectively. The karyotypes of the species were more or less symmetrical. The significance of karyotypic variation in speciation of the genus Wrightia has been discussed.
