Tibial plateau fractures over the past ten years treated at Bellevue Hospital were reviewed to find the incidence of meniscal and ligamentous injuries associated with this fracture. A review of the literature was also performed to see what treatment if any was needed. A total of 97 fractures were operatively treated and evaluated in the study. No open injuries or fracture dislocations were included. The fractures were classified by the Toronto classification.1 The review confirms findings of other studies, but shows that comparison of results is difficult due to differing variables found from institution to institution.
A case of osteoid osteoma of the scaphoid documented by polytomograms and CT scan is presented. The case presented as chronic pain. At operation, multiple pathological fractures with auricular surface destruction was noted. Due to the size of the osteoid osteoma and pathology present, the neoplasm was treated by scaphoid excision. A capsular interpositional arthroplasty and mid carpal arthrodesis with radial bone graft was also performed. Prior to surgery, the patient was treated with a 48 hour course of tetracycline to enhance fluorescence of the tumor under Wood’s lamp.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
