Background: Neuregulin-4 is a selective ligand for the ErbB4 receptor tyrosine kinase. Results: In colon epithelial cells, inflammatory cytokine-induced apoptosis is blocked by neuregulin-4, but proliferation and migration are not affected. Conclusion: ErbB4 activation by neuregulin-4 is a specific anti-apoptotic signal. Significance: Neuregulin-4/ErbB4 signaling might be therapeutically useful for diseases involving excessive epithelial apoptosis.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
