Tree of Science (ToS) is a web-based tool which uses the network structure of paper citation to identify relevant literature. ToS shows the information in the form of a tree, where the articles located in the roots are the classics, in the trunk are the structural publications, and leaves are the most current papers. It has been found that some results in the leaves can be separated from the tree. Therefore, an algorithm (SAP) is proposed, in order to improve results in the leaves. Two improvements are presented: articles located in the leaves are from the last five years, and they are connected to root and trunk articles through their citations. This improvement facilitates construction of current literature for researchers.
The systematic literature review presented here is designed to illustrate the role of metabonomics and metabolomics in pesticide exposure studies. The search was conducted in Thomson Reuters Web of Science (ISI Web of Knowledge) database. The references and citations for each article were downloaded for analysis. Graph theory was used to determine relevant articles and distinct relationships between classic and current research in this field through its structural characteristics. The initial network included 4423 nodes and 4978 links, from which indegree, outdegree and betweenness indicators were extracted. After preprocessing the data, the network was reduced to 415 nodes and 974 links. From this network, 80 articles with the highest score between the three indicators were extracted for review. This methodology allowed for the identification of different perspectives of metabolomic and metabonomic pesticide studies that included the mode and mechanism of action, toxicological and biological monitoring, environmental metabolomics, metabolism, dose response and biomarkers and its role in pesticide exposure. Keywords: Metabonomics; metabolomics; pesticides.
Can, and should, artificial intelligence (AI) and its machine learning (ML) variant be applied to study scholarly literature? With AI and ML rapidly disrupting industries, we investigate how scholars in entrepreneurship and small business management can capitalize on AI and ML to support their scholarship and comprehensively review, catalog, and analyze the literature. We examine various ML tools and deploy these tools against a published literature review to consider whether ML complements or substitutes scholars' agency. We show that ML can reinforce human findings to support replicability and robustness, adding additional layers of transparency and validity to conclusions from human-derived systematic reviews. Our contributions provide scholars with valuable guidance and a blueprint for adopting ML into their scholarship and not replacing their scholarship.
Executive dysfunction is associated with the inability to control aberrant behaviors, such as chronic overeating (Moore, Sabino, Koob, & Cottone, 2017). Obese individuals often report great difficulties controlling eating behaviors, despite a desire to successfully lose weight (Dohle, Diel, & Hofmann, 2018). However, current literature lacks a systematic review about the relationship between executive dysfunction and Obesity. The aim of this study is to present the most important findings about this matter. First, a bibliometric analysis shows the evolution of the topic. Then, the Tree of Science tool is used to show a chronological review that provides a general description of the roots and current perspectives of the state of literature. Finally, clustering analysis of the co-citation network was employed to identify the different perspectives of the topic. The main findings suggest four approaches: (1) effects of body mass index on executive functioning, (2) executive functioning in children with overweight and obesity, (3) physical activity for adult obesity and (4) structural and functional brain changes in obesity. Preliminary data state that in obesity, poor food choices may be associated with frontal cognitive impairments that contribute to reduced orbito-frontal cortex volume.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
