The availability of valid and reliable tool to assess turnover intent in any organization is essential. This study aimed to translate turnover intention scale in Urdu for employees working in diverse organizations (universities, banks, and hospitals). For this purpose, forward and backward translation methods were adopted. After determining cross language validation, factor validity was confirmed through Confirmatory factor analysis. Sample for Confirmatory factor analysis was consisted of 350 employees taken from diverse organizations. Sample age range was 22 to 60 years. The findings of Confirmatory factor analysis supported single factor structure of turnover intention scale with good fit model with Root mean square error .04. The alpha reliability coefficient of the Urdu version turnover intention scale was ?= .87. The findings also showed that turnover intention scale is a promising assessment tool having high validity and reliability.
The present research entitled was conducted to investigate the relationship between perceived social support and emotional intelligence. It was hypothesized that social support has positive correlation with emotional intelligence but negative correlation with female gender. The data was collected from 300 students (134 males and 166 females) from three universities of Southern Punjab. Cross-sectional research design was used. Multidimensional Scale for Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) and Self -Report Measure of Emotional Intelligence (SRMEI) were used to measure the two variables. Results were analyzed by t-test and correlations using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences, version 20. It was discovered that perceived social support has a significant positive correlation with emotional intelligence. It was further revealed that family provides more social support as compared to friends and significant others. Gender has no significant impact on perceived social support and emotional intelligence. Recommendations have also been discussed.
Sexual Harassment at workplace (SHW) is a global phenomenon. However, there has been no prior research on the association of SHW and subjective well-being (SWB) of working women in Pakistan. The SWB is an umbrella term that encompasses concepts such as satisfaction with life (SWL) and subjective happiness (SbH). The 200 working women from the public and private sector organizations in Pakistan were recruited randomly. The Sexual Harassment Experience Questionnaire, The Satisfaction with Life Scale, and Subjective Happiness Scale were administered as the main measures. The study met all the ethical considerations. The data was analyzed by the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences and expressed as baseline characteristics, correlation analysis and t tests. There was statistically significant negative relationship of SHW with SWL and SbH in working women. The young age, high school or less education, single marital status, and working in private sector organization were significantly associated with the increased and decreased experience of SHW and SWB respectively. The study recommended the adoption of anti SHW laws by the working sector and the periodic screening of working women for SWB so as to reduce the phenomenon of SHW and enhance the SWL and SbH in working women.
Understanding the factors which are essential for marital satisfaction can help not only married couples to improve their relationship but it is also beneficial for single individuals to get prepared for the future. The current study was conducted to explore the causes of marital satisfaction among couples living in Bahawalpur. A qualitative, cross-sectional research design was used. Only fertile married couples were included in the study using Snowball Sampling. Questions were generated in the light of Dynamic Goal Theory. Out of 12 couples, every participant was interviewed individually. Verbatim Transcription was applied on the audio recorded interviews. Thematic Analysis of the data explained that husbands and wives like each other because of trusting, respecting, praising and shopping for each other. In a good marital relation, husbands trust their wives leaving them alone at home or outside. They both respect each other in making decisions for practical matters. The most liked topic in a couple’s communication was planning the future of kids. Husbands consider marriage as a beautiful phase of life while most wives take marriage in Islamic perspective. Husbands reported that marriage had given them the quality of hard work as compared to wives who got protection. However, both genders reported improved self-confidence after marriage. The results of study are important for premarital counseling and family therapy.
Postpartum period is one of the sensitive period in any women’s life. As Hung Postpartum Stress Scale is the effective scale that measures level of stress in postpartum mothers. So, the study was conducted to translate and adapt this scale for Pakistani population. The aim was to translate this stress scale into Urdu language and to establish its psychometric properties. 343 postpartum mothers from government hospitals of Bahawalpur were studied for this purpose. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was conducted and validity was measured. Test-retest reliability analysis was conducted which shows high value of reliability of the translated version. The reliability value is .90 which is considered as ideal value. In order to establish the validity, convergent validity and face validity analyses were conducted. Their results also support the acceptable validity of the translated version. This adapted version is easy to use for those who can speak and understand Urdu.
