Phthalate esters are widely used as additives in the manufacturing of different types of plastics in order to increase their flexibility. Extensive use of these chemicals resulted in their presence in various environmental matrices. In the last decade, interest in the phthalate analysis is strongly increased due to their harmful effects on the humans. The aim of this work was investigate of the presence and content of phthalates in several cosmetics products in dependence of solvent and type of extraction used. The content of phthalates was determined by GC-MS using calibration curve method. Among six different extraction types and three solvents, it was found that reflux and ultrasonic extractions gave the highest yields of desired molecules. Used method was fast, reliable for different types of samples, and does not require time-consuming purification of analytes nor special chromatographic columns.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
