Weight-length relationships are presented for 60 fish species captured from Izmir Bay, Central Aegean Sea. Samples were collected using bottom trawls (mesh sizes 24 mm at stretched cod-end). The b values W ¼ aL b showed a mean value of 3.027 (SE ¼ ±0.03) and more than 50% of the values ranged between 2.912 and 3.189. One species, Cepola macrophthalma, showed strong negative allometric growth.

The present work was aimed at determining the growth parameters of the garfish, Belone belone, a commercially important pelagic fish species in Izmir Bay (Aegean Sea). A total of 347 garfish specimens was collected during the period January-December 1997 from purse-seine boats operating in Izmir Bay. Fork length and total weight of the specimens ranged from 26.0 to 54.5 cm and from 16.51 to 281.73 g, respectively. Maximum age group determined was V for females and IV for males. Female : male ratio was 1 : 0.45. Most specimens belonged to age group II. The von Bertalanffy growth equations for length and weight were L t ¼ 62:71ð1 À e À0:237ðt þ 1:566Þ Þ for both sexes.

Age and growth of the hollowsnout grenadier was studied based on samples collected seasonally in the Agean Sea between March 2003 and January 2004. Total length ranged from 9.0 to 21.6 cm. Length-weight relationship was described as a ¼ 0.0032, and b ¼ 3.008. Age determinations based on otolith readings were between 1 and 10 years. The von Bertalanffy growth curve fitted to observed lengths-at-age provided parameters of L ¥ ¼ 24.9 cm, k ¼ 0.115 and t o ¼ )3.494.

This study was hold on to determine the lenght, weight, age and sex distributions and growth parameters of European Hake (Merluccius merluccius, L., 1758) in Edremit Bay between August 1999 and December 2000. During the study, A total of 2375 samples which was collected by trawling from the depth strata between 38-80 meters were investigated and the total lenght and weight distrubitions were determined as 7.6-46.2 cm and 2.09-766.0 g respectively. Age determinations based on otolith readings were found that the fishes distributed between 0+ and 5 age groups. The von Bertalanffy growth curve fitted to observed lengths-at-age provided parameters of L  =53.49 cm, 47.49 cm and 53.90 cm; k=0.385, 0.349 ve 0.377 year-1 ; t0=-0.078,-0.112 ve-0.045 year; and the growth performance index value (Φ) was also computed as 2.895, 3.042 ve 3.040 for males, females and all specimens, respectively
