The superficial and deep FAZ areas varied significantly among healthy eyes. Factors such as CRT, sex, SE, AL, and choroidal thickness influence the size of the FAZ.

A progressive failure model is developed for laminated composites containing stress concentrations subjected to in-plane loading. The fundamental approach is to model a damaged lamina using a damaged ply constitutive relation in a simplified manner. The environmental effects including the thermal residual stresses and hygroscopic stresses arc taken into consideration. Parametric studies show that load increment only has little effect on the ultimate strength. When the number of elements for the finite element mesh increases to a certain value, the predicted ultimate strength approaches a stable value. The predictions for the ultimate strength, stress-strain behavior and the damage progression agree reasonably well with the experimental result.

The finite-width correction factors for anisotropic and orthotropic plates containing an elliptical opening are presented in a tractable and closed-form solution. Examining with experimental data and finite element solutions shows that the present theory is very ac curate for a broad range of opening-to-width ratio, 2a/W, and opening aspect ratio, a/b. The application of isotropic finite-width correction factors to estimate the anisotropic or orthotropic finite-width correction factors can cause significant error in many cases. The sensitivity of the finite-width correction factors as a function of the opening aspect ratio is also discussed.

These relations are written in the familiar form of two- dimensional compliances appropriate for use with laminated plate theory, and include the effects of non-mechanical strains. It is shown explicitly that the cracked lamina com pliances depend upon the overall laminate construction in which the lamina is contained.
