A human representation system is developed that consists of a multi‐view display that uses a Quantized‐Diffusion‐Angle (QDA) screen and multiple cameras. A perspective transformation method is also developed to eliminate problems that occur in observing multi‐view displays.
A multi-view display using Quantized-Diffusion-Angle (QDA) screen with only a single projector has been developed. This display system has advantages of wide observation areas with infinite depth from screen surface, no crosstalk between adjacent areas, needless of trapezoidal correction, simple structured, and taking smaller footprint by employing opposite mirrors. In the validation by a prototype system, these merits were examined actually.
We formerly developed an automatic colony count system based on the time-lapse shadow image analysis (TSIA). Here this system has been upgraded and applied to practical rapid decision. A microbial sample was spread on/in an agar plate with 90 mm in diameter as homogeneously as possible. We could obtain the results with several strains that most of colonies appeared within a limited time span. Consequently the number of colonies reached a steady level (Nstdy) and then unchanged until the end of long culture time to give the confirmed value (Nconf). The equivalence of Nstdy and Nconf as well as the difference of times for Nstdy and Nconf determinations were statistically significant at p < 0.001. Nstdy meets the requirement of practical routines treating a large number of plates. The difference of Nstdy and Nconf, if any, may be elucidated by means of retrievable big data. Therefore Nconf is valid for official documentation.
As an improved methodology for rapidly enumerating viable bacteria, microbial colonies in agar media are observed in the microscopic fashion at regular rate from the initial stage of culturing while media plate is being incubated. At each sampling time, in order to observe colonies in various depths without focusing on any of them, an agar plate is irradiated by a point light source to project the clear shadow of colonies onto the CCD image sensor. The projected image is processed with a computer to detect the colonies automatically. As the result of the experiment with E. coli, the number of colonies had reached to the plateau after six hours of incubation and the enumeration process was completed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
