Acute abdominal pain is a common surgical presentation, and most often, the first line of consideration is to rule out acute appendicitis; this is more so when the patient is an adolescent or within younger age group. In most cases, other differentials are considered before omental torsion. Omental torsion is a cause of acute abdominal pain and sometimes mimics acute appendicitis in its presentation. We present a case of a 14-yr-old boy who presented with acute abdomen with symptoms mimicking acute appendicitis. Laparoscopy revealed torsion of the omentum. Omentectomy and appendicectomy were done, and the child discharged four days after following a remarkable recovery.

Denture ingestion is a rare clinical entity among foreign body ingestions. The caveat is that there is often no recollection of the event and that dentures are radiolucent and as such hard to identify on conventional imaging. To date not all dentures contain radiopaque marker. Here we present the case of a 52-year-old male who was admitted with clinical and radiological signs of perforated diverticular disease. A curvilinear metallic foreign body was picked up on repeat CT imaging at day 3, which was part of an unknowingly swallowed partial denture that became impacted and perforated the sigmoid colon. The patient underwent an uneventful laparoscopic anterior resection and was discharged home a week later. We conclude that all dentures should contain a radiopaque marker in order to avoid failure in radiological detection and thus prevent misdiagnosis and inappropriate treatment.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the Netherlands, and breast reconstruction is becoming a common surgical procedure for women who have had a mastectomy. Reconstruction post breast cancer treatment is covered by conditional reimbursement until 01-04-2020 as long as it as an autologous fat transplant. Conditional reimbursements are special legal exceptions under constant consideration by the Ministry of Health and require evidence on treatment and cost effectiveness to be moved to basic healthcare package. Surgeons at Maastricht UMC+ have developed sophisticated techniques for women that undergo a reconstruction surgery to recover sensitivity of the breasts. Improved sensitization would lead to a better quality of life and protect the skin against thermal and mechanical injuries. However, current health insurance coverage of breast reconstruction does not permit these additions. Furthermore, the reimbursement system in The Netherlands does not allow people to pay an extra fee for these additions.
