Myiasis is defined as the infestation of live vertebrates (humans and/or animals) with dipterous larvae. We present a case of rare but not unknown type of myiasis, presented by an 11 days old neonate. The larvae were characterised microscopically. Poor sanitation is probably the most important risk factor for human myiasis. Umblical myiasis though a rare presentation due to improved health conditions and health education still remains an entity to be looked for in case of newborn belonging to low socio economic status parents and even in orphanages.
Salmonella typhi is a rare cause of bacterial meningitis in infants accounting for 1% or less of cases. We report a rare case of meningitis in a nine-month-old baby due to Salmonella typhi. A nine-month-old female was admitted to our tertiary care hospital, with a week’s history of fever with rigors and refusal to take feeds.
Kluyvera is a relatively new genus, belonging to family Enterobacteriaceae. This organism colonizes mainly respiratory and gastrointestinal tract. It has also been reported from various environmental sources. Due to a rise in immune-compromised states and ease of identification using automated methods rare organisms are now being reported with their role as potential opportunistic pathogens. Meticulous detailed identification and reporting of pathogens like Klyuvera to differentiate it from other members of Enterobacteriaceae can lead to solving the pathogenic importance of such organisms. We report a case of bilateral gluteal abscess due to Kluyvera cryocrescens in an obese diabetic adult male.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
