Chemical ingestions can cause acute injury to the oesophagus, stomach, pylorus, duodenum and sometimes other organs after ingestion of corrosives, but it may be as late as 1 year after ingestion. A 30-year-old male patient presented to the emergency department with sudden epigastric abdominal pain after flash material ingestion. Computed tomography of abdomen showed signs of small bowel obstruction associated with segmental small bowel ischaemic changes. Postoperatively, patient developed an intolerance to oral intake with upper gastrointestinal scope showing sever stricture at the distal gastric lumen and pylorus. The patient was taken to the operation where gastrojejunostomy and brown procedure was done. Corrosive gastric injury treatment depends on the degree of gastric involvement, related oesophageal strictures and the patient’s general health. Early surgery offers very satisfactory and physiological results, whereas avoiding gastric resection or bypass provides very satisfactory and physiological outcomes.
This study aimed to identify the level of application of the standards of the Council of Exceptional Children (CEC) in the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Teachers' Preparation Program at Taif University (TU) from the point of view of faculty members. A descriptive approach was employed with a questionnaire as the research tool. The questionnaire was prepared and translated from English into Arabic and developed based on the "Professional Preparation Standards for Special Educators" (PSSE) of the standards of the CEC. The questionnaire included seven standards, which included 32 items that measured the availability of the standards of the CEC in the ASD teachers' preparation program. The study sample consisted of 36 faculty members, who taught in the ASD program in the Department of Special Education at TU. The results of the study revealed the level of the standards of the CEC in the program for preparing teachers of ASD at TU from the point of view of the faculty members at TU, in general, was at a high degree. In addition, the level of application of the seven standards included in the study tool was at a high degree. In light of the results, the study recommended conducting similar studies at universities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to substantiate the findings.
Background. Globally among bariatric procedures, SG popularity has grown significantly. New complications arise as a result of the rapid growth in the numbers of LSG. Once SG has been performed, the stomach is left with no fixations along the entire greater curvature, which may predispose to volvulus. Case Report. The 44-year-old patient had laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy 2 years and 6 months before presentation in our emergent department complaining of episodic intolerance to oral intake for 3 months before presentation. Gastrografin swallow study showed gastric outlet obstruction. The patient was taken to the operation room for laparoscopic exploration, gastric untwisting. Conclusion. This case highlights a rare complication of SG which has been inconsistently addressed in the literature. Awareness of such complications would help surgeons to widen their differential diagnosis of postoperative sleeve gastrectomy early complications to manage them effectively. The video of the procedure showing the intraoperative finding can be accessed at.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
