The interaction of iodine cyanide and cyanide in aqueous solution has been reinvestigated and it has been confirmed that a complex cyanide ion, the dicyanoiodate(1) ion [I(CN),]-is formed. This ion has been isolated in the solid state for the first time, as its tetraphenylarsonium, tetraphenylphosphonium and caesium salts. Infrared and Raman spectroscopic studies of these salts are reported. These spectra are fully consistent with a linear centrosymmetric (Dmh) structure for the [I(CN,)]-ion. Assignments are made for six of the seven fundamentals of the [I(CN)J ion in the caesium salt.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
