Some important factors in selecting the right link resolver for an institution are the ease of use and management of the link resolver, the quality of the knowledgebase, and the vendors and services that they provide. The UT Southwestern Medical Library evaluated the performance of LinkSource to assess its effectiveness and efficiency as a link resolver based on the above criteria. The primary outcome of interest was the success rate of linking a citation from any of the Library's literature resources to the full text of the selected article, when the full text was available. A secondary outcome was the efficiency of the linking, as measured by the number of mouse-clicks it took to learn the result, regardless of access to the full text.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
