Recent trends show that increasing power consumption is one of the serious challenges for high image quality displays. For an LCD module, the backlight accounts for a large proportion of the power consumption. We present a newly developed edge-lit backlight system utilizing a structured lightguide that offers an effective solution to this challenge with high manufacture yield.
Since today's trend in automotive displays is toward more, larger and better, LCD backlights have a large potential to play an important role in terms of high‐brightness, high‐contrast and power saving. In this paper, we present an efficient backlight which allows high‐luminance, high‐contrast and low power consumption utilizing our novel collimating control technology.
