We have developed a transmissive type of electrowetting display driven by passive matrix. The novel display shows high image quality because it provides high contrast ratio 60,000:1 at display normal direction and wide viewing angle character (CR 20,000 at±70 degree). As the display has a memory characteristic, it also exhibits a feature of low power consumption.
A novel scattering display mode was designed to implement the reflective color LCD with high brightness and high contrast. A twisted PDLC device with a single polarizer was found to show the brightness of <30% and the contrast of <20 at the limited viewing angles.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
