PurposeTo describe the features of impacted upper canines and their relationship with adjacent structures through three-dimensional cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images.Materials and MethodsUsing the CBCT scans of 79 upper impacted canines, we evaluated the following parameters: gender, unilateral/bilateral occurrence, location, presence and degree of root resorption of adjacent teeth (mild, moderate, or severe), root dilaceration, dental follicle width, and presence of other associated local conditions.ResultsMost of the impacted canines were observed in females (56 cases), unilaterally (51 cases), and at a palatine location (53 cases). Root resorption in adjacent teeth and root dilaceration were observed in 55 and 47 impacted canines, respectively. In most of the cases, the width of the dental follicle of the canine was normal; it was abnormally wide in 20 cases. A statistically significant association was observed for all variables, except for root dilaceration (p=0.115) and the side of impaction (p=0.260).ConclusionRoot resorption of adjacent teeth was present in most cases of canine impaction, mostly affecting adjacent lateral incisors to a mild degree. A wide dental follicle of impacted canines was not associated with a higher incidence of external root resorption of adjacent teeth.
Success in root canal treatment is achieved after thorough cleaning and shaping followed by complete obturation of the canal system. Therefore, endodontic therapy requires specific and complete knowledge of the internal and external dental anatomy, and its variations in presentation. Such treatment may be performed in root canal systems that do not comply with the normal anatomical features described in standard textbooks. The internal anatomy of the maxillary central incisor is well known and usually presents one root canal system. This case report describes an endodontic retreatment of a maxillary central incisor with two canal systems.
Objective: To perform laboratory analysis of the cutting ability of K3 and RT Densell files. Material and Methods: Fifty simulated root canals made of heat-curing phenolic resin, were divided into two groups were used. Group RT Densell consisted of specimens instrumented with files from the RT Densell rotary system, while the specimens in Group F3 were instrumented with files from the K3 rotary system. The simulated canals were weighed before and after instrumentation to analyze the amount of resin removed by each system. The statistical analysis of the results was performed using the program BioEstat 3.0. Descriptive statistics were applied to show the minimum and maximum data values, arithmetic mean, standard deviation and coefficient of variation, followed by statistical inference with a significance level of 5% Results: The data collected revealed that the rotary system nickel-titanium files of RT Densell brand removed 615 milligrams and the rotary system files K3 454 milligrams removed after five instrumentations. Through statistical test "t" Student, the difference between the two systems was considered statistically significant (p<0.05). Conclusion: RT Densell files have greater cutting ability than the files of the K3 brand rotary system, while the latter have.
Abstract Introduction: The use of millimeter rules is of fundamental importance for the proper conduct in the various stages of endodontic treatment. Objective: To evaluate the potentiating effect of different substances in antimicrobial action of calcium hydroxide. Methods: The agar diffusion method, was used with well technique, to analyze seven substances associated to calcium hydroxide to make some pastes, they are: chlorexidine, saline, anesthetic, malvatricin, propolis, hypochlorite, paramonochlorophenol. Results: The pastes with malvatricin and paramonochlorophenol presented greater inhibition zones against Enterococcus faecalis. Conclusion: There was potentialization in antimicrobial effect of calcium hydroxide when associated to paramonochlorophenol and to malvatricin especially against Enterococcus faecalis. Low increase of the antimicrobial capacity was observed when using chlorexidine as vehicle to calcium hydroxine paste.
