Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL) is an alternative protein source for livestock. This research aimed to know the effectiveness of BSFL for commercial feed substitution, related to production, productivity, and profitability in quail farm. This study used 80 quails which divided into 4 groups and each group consist of 20 quails. The treatments contained BSFL substitution with different composition, control group (P0) was given 100% commercial feed, (P1) was given a 5% BSFL substitution, (P2) was given a 10% BSFL substitution and (P3) was given a 20% BSFL substitution. Contribution margin (CM) analysis was used to determine the yields of the groups in this study. Results showed that the highest feed consumption rate is in P3, production (egg in total and weight), productivity and yields in P3 is the highest, although there's no difference between P0, P2 and P3 based on the analysis MANOVA. BSFL substitution at 20% is recommended to the farmers to increase profits.
The isolation of antioxidant active compounds from n-hexane extract of nutmeg leaves (Myristica fragrans Houtt) with dipphenylpicrylhydrazyl (DPPH) has been carried out. n-Hexane extract of nutmeg leaves (0.35%) was obtained by partitioning of methanol extract (535.7 g) using n-hexane solvent. Isolation of active compound of n-hexane extract with gravitational column chromatography gradient elution of n-hexane : ethyl acetate with ratio (9 : 1) – (7 : 3) obtained 7 mixed fraction of MFHD1 - MFHD 7. MFHD 2 fraction further isolated obtained MFHD 2.1. The nutmeg n-hexane extracts and their fractions showed strong antioxidant activity with IC50 values <100 ppm except MFHD 6 fraction showed for IC50 values of 114.95 ppm. The most potent antioxidant activity in MFHD 4 fraction with IC50 value of 0.729 ppm (compared with vitamin C value of IC50 7,875 ppm as positive control). The GC-MS analysis of the MFHA 2.1 fraction shows the presence of sitostenone and eucalyptol compounds, both of which have been reported to have been isolated from several different plants and have antioxidant activity.
Mud crab (Scylla serrata) is a brackish water organism that has quite big market potential because it has tasty flavour and high nutrition. Natural feed of mud crab is trash fish, one of the example is kuniran fish that has 15.43% of protein, 0.46% of fat, 84.29% of water, and 0.77% of ash. Crab needed 4.8-10.8% fat in feed, but kuniran fish has 0.46% fat, so it needs the additional of fat. Fat is very important to support fish growth rate. Fat is needed as an energy source to maintenace the body and tissue function. Therefore it is needed the addition of fish oil as one of fatty acids source that have 55.8791% ether extract, 10.7173% omega-3 fatty acids EPA, and 7.0108% DHA. The aims is to know the addition of Crude Fish Oil (CFO) in feed affects fat and energy retention of mud crab. The methods was experimental methods with randomly complete design which consists of five treatments and four repetitions. The treatments used 0%, 2%, 4%, 6% and 8% as the addition of CFO in feed. Data analyzed by statistic and descriptive. Result showed that fat and energy retention for each treatments has no significantly different (p>0.05).
White Snapper (Lates Calcarifer) has a fairly complete nutritional content, is favored by the community and has high economic value. The success of white snapper cultivation is determined by the availability of feed during maintenance. This study aims to analyze the use of gold snails as a substitute for pellet feed on the growth and survival of white snapper, by feeding gold snails, pellets and a combination of both. The research took place from July to November 2021 at the Pond and Field Laboratory of FPIK, Indonesian Muslim University in Kalibone, Pangkep. The method was a completely randomized design (CRD) with 3 treatments and 3 replications; namely Treatment A (pellets), Treatment B (conch Emas) and Treatment C (pellets and snails Emas). Parameters measured were growth rate of fish body weight and length, Specific Growth Rate (SGR), Survival, Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR). The data were analyzed using analysis of variance value (ANOVA) and further test of Least Significant Difference (LSD) was performed if the ANOVA was significant using SPSS 22 software. The results of this study showed that the treatment used had no significant effect on all parameters measured except for absolute length growth. This shows that the use of golden snails for barramundi feed can be used to substitute pellet feed which is relatively more expensive. Even in the growth parameters, the use of golden snails was better than pellet feed, although the difference in growth was not statistically significant.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
