OBJECTIVE: The present study aimed at examining the effects of regular exercise on hippocampal estrogen and estrogen receptor β (ERβ) levels, as well as the spatial memory of ovariectomized rats. BACKGROUND: A decrease of estrogen levels leads to dysfunctions of hippocampus, including spatial learning and memory. Studies have shown that physical exercise improved spatial memory of ovariectomized rats and was associated with an increased extragonadal aromatization. This in turn affects the expression of estrogen receptors. METHODS: Ovariectomized Sprague Dawley rats were randomly assigned into the two groups, i.e. exercise and control groups. Rats of the exercise group were trained to run on a treadmill. The exercise was performed fi ve times per week for 12 weeks. The spatial memory of rats was measured using the Morris water maze. The hippocampal estrogen and ERβ levels of rats were determined using ELISA. RESULTS: The spatial memory retention of the exercise group was signifi cantly better than that of the control group. The hippocampal estrogen level of the exercise group was signifi cantly higher than that of the control group. CONCLUSION: Regular exercise increases hippocampal estrogen levels and improves spatial memory retention of ovariectomized rats (Tab. 1, Fig. 4, Ref. 53).
This study aims to determine the association between prostate volume and PSA levels in BPH patients at Ulin Hospital Banjarmasin. This study used a cross-sectional retrospective approach and analytic method. A total of 52 samples were obtained by purposive sampling based on inclusion and exclusion criterias. The highest prostate volume of 20.00-39.99 cc was obtained from 16 patients (30.7%) and the lowest volume of 60.00-79.99 cc was obtained from 10 patients (19.2%). Examination of PSA levels were highest at 2.6-9.9 ng/mL from 24 patients (46.2%) and the lowest at >20.0 ng/mL (5.8%) from 3 patients. Data analysis using Pearson correlation coefficient showed a positive correlation between prostate volume and PSA levels in BPH patients at Ulin Hospital Banjarmasin with a p value = 0,000 and r = 0.616 (positive and strong correlation). Keywords: BPH, Prostate volume, PSA
Kata -kata kunci: bantaran sungai Lulut, edukasi, kesehatan masyarakat, mitigasi banjir.
This study aims to analyze the molecular docking between the active compounds of the Garcinia mangostana against the RANKL/RANK/OPG system and its potential as an antiosteoporosis. The research protocol includes the search and modeling of protein and ligand structures and their docking. Software used includes OpenBabel, HEX 8.0, Chimera 1.6.2, Discovery Studio 4.1, LigPlot + and LigandScout 3.1. Tovophillin has the most negative interaction energy with RANKL-OPG (−332.8 Kj/mol) and RANKL-RANK (−298.1 Kj/mol). It was concluded that fourteen active compounds of Garcinia mangostana did not interfere with the physiological function of RANKL against RANK. In addition, the active compound will not affect the RANKL-OPG complex. The antiosteoporosis mechanism of Garcinia mangostana does not by inhibiting RANKL-RANK interactions.
