Writing is a very crucial skill in teaching and learning English as a Foreign Language (EFL). However, many students especially in Indonesia regarded this skill as the most complex task to complete, even for university students. Thus, the aim of this study was to describe the process of teaching writing in the classroom as well as to identify the students" writing problemsand to find out the factors which cause them. Thestudy was conducted in the second semester of English language program of Hamzanwadi University in academic year 2016-2017. The participants of this study consisted of 10 students selected using purposesful sampling technique. The research method used was a case study approach. In addition, in order to collect the data in the field, the researcher used some instruments; observation, interview, document and records. In addition, to ensure the trustworhiness of the data, the researcher followed some criteria adapted by Lincoln and Guba (1985), namely credibility (truth), dependability (consistency), transferability (applicability), and confirmability (Neutrality). The findings reveal that the students were taught using process approach in which the students were encouraged to learn writing throught some processes namely prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing. The researcher found that the students have various problems in their writing; mostly grammatical problems, word choice problems, and mechanical problems. They might be caused by some factors; lack practice, low motivation, and also time allocation.
This research aims at finding the effectiveness of Toondoo Comic in teaching speaking at the second semester of Sendratasik Study Program of Hamzanwadi University in the academic year 2018-2019. This research was a pre experiment by using single group pre-test and post-test design. The population of the study was 47 students from A and B classes. The sample of the study was 17 students from class A. It was taken through purposive random sampling. A speaking test was used in collecting the data. The data collected were analyzed by using descriptive statistic, and paired sample t-test was used to test the hypothesis. It was performed using SPSS 22 for Windows. The result shows that the mean in the pre-test was 41.06 and was 60.71 in the post- test. Additionally, the hypothesis testing using paired sample t-test resulted significance (2-tailed) value level .000; it was lower than .05. This indicated that Toondoo comic was significantly effective in teaching speaking. Thus it is suggested that Tondoo comic is considered an alternative media in teaching and learning process.
The aim of this research is to investigate EFL students’ perspectives on the utilization of online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. A survey method was applied. This research involves 40 students of the second, fourth, and sixth semesters of the English Study Program of a private University in Hamzanwadi for the academic year 2020-2021 as the participants. To collect the data, a questionnaire was administered via Google Forms. The data collected were then analyzed using a percentage formula. The results of the study indicate that most of the students believe that online learning has not provided a better experience dan results in improving their competencies. However, they agreed that it provides ease in their learning. In addition, based on the result of questionnaires, more than 50% of the students prefer direct-classroom learning to online learning and only resettled with online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. In a nutshell, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, students still choose direct classroom learning.
