This article discusses EFL learners' perceptions, challenges and expectations on online learning during Covid-19 pandemic. The participants of this study were the second semester students of Magister of English Study Program in one public university in Banten. Questionnaire and interview were conducted to collect the data. The data were then analyzed qualitatively based on the themes. The research results show that the students perceived positively on the usefulness and the ease of use of online learning. They gave positive responses on online learning in terms of learning autonomy, discipline, technological skill, flexibility, accessibility, and their readiness dealing with technical things. The challenges they faced were dealing with the poor internet connection, motivation dynamics and learning material understanding difficulty. Finally, to deal with the challenges, they expected to have more well-prepared lecturers regarding technological capacity, course content and assessment.
Abstract:Given the reality of language diversity in Banten and juxtaposed with the differences in language behavior between men and women, the researcher directly examined the pattern of Banten-Dialect Javanese Language associated with gender in the community of Gowok Village, Sukajaya, Curug District, Serang City.
The purposes of the research is aimed at knowing how speaking activities and speaking difficulties are practiced in English Debating Club. The method used in this research was a case study. The instruments used to collect the data were observation, questionnaire, and interview. The respondents were 15 students of English Conversation and Debating Club at SMKN 1 Pandeglang. The result of the research confirms that by joining English Conversation and Debating club, students are able to (1) speak English fluently because they have more practice; (2) they can speak English quietly accurate; (3) the students are custom to speak English; and (4) they also speak with few grammatical errors, few long pauses, and only few clarifications for the beginners debaters (junior members) than the experienced debaters (senior members). On the other side, the difficulties of speaking found when they selecting the data and evidences, making argument, and making rebuttal due to the various resources.
