Diabetes Mellitus is metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from inadequate insulin secretion, insulin action or both and insulin resistance. Gymnema sylvestre have reported beneficial effect for treating in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Objective: A comparison of the efficacy of homoeopathic medicine gymnema sylvestre 6 CH and gymnema sylvestre mother tincture in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus cases. Material and method: 30 cases of type 2 diabetes mellitus were selected and gymnema sylvestre mother tincture and 6 CH were prescribed for these cases and follow up was every one month, three months and six months. Results: Over a period of 6 months, there was significant reduction in blood sugar levels (fasting and post prandial blood sugar) in both groups. ANOVA repeated measures also showed significant difference P = 0.001. Conclusion: There is significant reduction in fasting blood sugar, post prandial blood sugar levels both groups (gymnema sylvestre 6 CH and gymnema sylvestre homoeopathic mother tincture) in type 2 diabetes mellitus cases. The results suggested that gymnema sylvestre 6 CH and gymnema sylvestre mother tincture has beneficial anti diabetic effective and warrants future investigation.
Aim: The present study aims to determine the efficacy of bovine hydroxyapatite and collagen (G-graft) mixed with platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) used as a scaffold and chorion membrane as a barrier in postextraction sockets with extraction sites alone. Methods and material: Thirty individuals were randomly assigned into two groups. In the control group, after debridement of the extracted tooth socket, no additional treatment was done. In the test group, after debridement of the extracted tooth socket, the sockets were filled with bovine hydroxyapatite and collagen (G-graft) mixed with PRF. They were covered by a chorion membrane, and a non-absorbable suture material was used to secure the membrane in place. Clinical parameters assessed were plaque index, gingival index, buccolingual width, buccal bone plate height, and lingual bone plate height at baseline and at six months. Results: Clinically, there was a more significant reduction in the buccolingual width of the control group than the test group after six months. A statistically significant difference between the two groups for vertical ridge height at the mesial and distal socket sites was observed. No statistically significant difference in buccal and lingual bone plate height was observed between the two groups (p>0.05).Conclusions: Both groups showed a significant reduction in the Buccolingual width, but it was less in the ridge preservation group. Thus, the use of G-graft with PRF and chorion membrane was highly effective in ridge preservation. Key messages: Natural bovine bone mineral, along with PRF and chorion as a membrane, can be utilized effectively for ridge preservation in extracted tooth sockets due to periodontal disease.
Extracts of Pterocarpus Marsupium were prepared using methods like infusion, maceration, decoction and percolation. Several chemical constituents like pterostilbene, epicatechin, pterosupin, marsupin, tannins, pentosan, propterol, isoflavonoid glycol, liquiritigenin etc. were identified an Pterocarpus Marsupium Roxb. (Fabaceae) is one such herbal drug which finds its place in AYUSH. Nature has bestowed this herb with a high versatility due to which it exhibits a wide range of Pharmacological actions. Pterocarpus marsupium commonl Indian Kino tree or Asana or Vijayasar is a large deciduous tree found in the subtropical regions of the world.
Cephalandra indica commonly known as Lvy Gourd, Little Gourd and Kovai belongs to family Cucurbitaceae. This plant is used in Homoepathy as antidiabetic in India. It contains an enzyme with amyloytic properties, a hormone and traces of an alkaloid and it produces reduction of sugar in the blood and urine of patients suffering from glycosuria. Cephalandra indica reported to exhibit anti carotenoids, anit inflammatory, anti diabetic, antioxidant activities, antimicrobial and flavonoid isolated from C. Indica aerial parts. In India Cephalandra indica are used widely as vegetable.
In recent times, the use of herbal products has increased enormously across the globe. Numerous natural products such as those isolated from plants have been evaluated as therapeutics for the treatment of variety of diseases. Bacopa monnieri also referred to as water hyssop and "Brahmi," has been used in the Indian system of medicine since time immemorial. It belongs to the family Scrophulariaceae and is an annual creeping plant found in wet, damp, and marshy areas. Phytochemical analysis of Bacopa monnieri extracts revealed the presence of various biochemical compounds such as alkaloids, bacosides, flavonoids, glycosides, triterpenoids and saponins etc. The major therapeutic chemical constituents of this plant identified through various researches are the triterpenoids saponins, bacosides. Bacoside A has been recognized as the chief component responsible for therapeutic effects. Bacopa monnieri is conventionally used for diverse ailments, but is best known as memory enhancer. A vast range of studies using methanolic and ethanolic extracts of Bacopa monnieri have shown its effect in treatment of wide range of diseases like diabetes, depression, cancer, inflammation etc. Bacopa monnieri appears to demonstrate low toxicity in various rat, mice models including humans however, long term studies of toxicity in humans still need to study in great details. This review focuses on the studies that have traced both pharmacological and phytochemical properties of plant Bacopa monnieri covering wide range of its effect on antidepression, anti epileptic, anti oxidative amongst many others which can surely help in betterment of mankind.
