Background & Objective: Fertility is important in developing personality, and infertility is a disorder that often bears unintended and sometimes untreatable consequences for couples. As an element of personal features, mental health is often related to marital satisfaction. In this study, the correlation between mental health and marital satisfaction is investigated in infertile couples referring to the Kosar Infertility Center of Urmia, Iran.
Materials & Methods:This cross-sectional study was performed on 186 infertile couples referred to Kosar Infertility Center, Iran. They were randomly selected in 2018. The data were collected using General Health Questionnaire and Enrich Marital Satisfaction Questionnaire completed by the participants. In the present study, to conduct data analysis, SPSS version 25.0 was used along with inferential and descriptive statistics. Results: Idealistic distortion had a significant relationship with mental health in infertile couples (P=0.015). Moreover, leisure activities (P=0.043) and financial management (P=0.017) had a significant inverse relationship with mental health in infertile couples.
Conclusion:According to the findings, based on the association between marital satisfaction and mental health, mental health can be improved by solving marital problems and enhancing the satisfaction of infertile couples. Hence, the health status of families is improved, denoting the considerable contribution of family counseling centers.
Background & Objective: One of the most common causes of maternal mortality in the first trimester of pregnancy is ectopic pregnancy (EP). Adenosine deaminase (ADA) plays an essential role in production, maturation and function of lymphoid cells, which is produced in all tissues of the body. Total serum adenosine deaminase levels decrease during normal pregnancy. Considering the importance of early detection of EP, this study aimed to investigate the relationship between adenosine deaminase and EP in pregnant women referred to Motahari Hospital in Urmia from 2017 to 2018.
Materials & Methods:This study consisted of two groups of patients including patients with EP as a case group and patients with normal pregnancy confirmed by sonography as a control group. The level of βHCG and serum ADA levels were compared in the two groups. P-values less than 0.05 were considered as significant. Results: In this study, 94 pregnant women were enrolled, including 47 patients as control group with normal pregnancy and 47 patients as case group with EP. The mean ADA level in patients with EP and the control group were 12.21±8.17 IU/L and 8.44±6.21 IU/L (P=0.01), respectively. The mean βHCG level in women with EP was 3215.60±1400.71 mIU/mL. In women with normal pregnancy, it was 11926.96±3408.23 mIU/mL (P=0.001).
Conclusion:High levels of ADA can be helpful in the early diagnosis of EP.
The most common form of structural uterine anomaly is the septate uterus, which has the highest rate of reproductive failure. An uncommon type of development is a septate uterus with cervical duplication and a complete longitudinal vaginal septum. We report a 26-year-old woman with infertility complaints. We performed diagnostic procedures and noticed that the patient had a septate uterus and cervical duplication with a longitudinal vaginal septum. It is an uncommon Mullerian anomaly that does not fit into the current assortment system of Mullerian anomalies by the American Fertility Society (AFS).
Clindamycin, IVIg, and corticosteroids are widely used in medicine. In this study, we represent an unusual case of sinus bradycardia following the administration of these drugs. The patient was a 31-year-old woman who presented a complaint of vaginal bleeding at Shahid Motahhari Hospital, Urmia, Iran. Vaginal examination revealed active bleeding. Laboratory tests reported a positive HCG level. Ultrasonography was performed, and the results showed the presence of retained products of conception. The patient became a candidate for curettage. The initial pulse rate was tachycardia. Laboratory data were reported, platelet count of 16000. Corticosteroids and IVIgs were started. Due to the possibility of infectious abortion, Clindamycin and Gentamicin was started. About 24 hours after curettage and 4 hours after starting clindamycin, the patient felt dizziness. Vital signs were obtained that PR: 38-40. We concluded that clindamycin and IVIg can result in severe bradycardia, even in patients with no previous cardiac history, especially when combined with corticosteroids. As a result, we recommend physicians be more cautious when administrating these medications.
