Objectives:Osteoporosis is a metabolic bone disease of reduced bone mass density (BMD) and elevated risk of fracture due to an imbalance in bone formation and resorption. The risk and incidence of osteoporosis increase towards advanced age, particularly in postmenopausal women, and the risk is known to be affected by the variation in the expression of the associated regulatory genes. This work aimed to clarify the impact of variation in RUNX2 (runt domain transcription factor 2), which is an osteoblast-specific transcription factor that normally stimulates bone formation and osteoblast differentiation, regarding single-nucleotide polymorphism within RUNX2 promoter (P1) and risk of osteoporosis in postmenopausal Indonesian women. Methods:Using DNA sampling from blood, the variation at the single-nucleotide polymorphism (-330, G→T, rs59983488) at the RUNX2 P1 promoter was investigated using polymerase chain reaction–restriction fragment length polymorphism for 180 consenting postmenopausal Indonesian women. The subjects were examined for bone mass density and classification to normal and those with osteopenia or osteoporosis by T-scoring with dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Chi-square testing and logistic regression were mainly used for statistical assessment. Results:The results showed a general trend with increased risk of osteoporosis associated with the genotype TT (mutant type) and the corresponding T allele of the tested polymorphism of RUNX2 promoter P1. The trend was, however, not significant in multivariate testing adjusted for age and time after menopause. Conclusion:To confirm the potential risk with TT genotype would require testing of a much larger sample of subjects. As the tested single-nucleotide polymorphism only represents one of the relevant candidate locations of RUNX2, the results are taken nevertheless to suggest an impact by overall RUNX2 variation in the risk of osteoporosis in Indonesian postmenopausal women.
Among the primary vectors of infections agent involved in the case of dengue epidemic, are the Culicidae-insect, Aedes albopictus, capable of introducing themselves in urban core. This study performed a survey mosquitos species by catching their egg using ovitrap installed within seven regions in residential area of Sandubaya District, Lombok, Indonesia. The collected samples were identified and was analyzed its abundance then mapped using geographical information system. The most abundance of Ae. albopictus was found in Selagalas and Abian Tubuh with relative abundance value were 100% and 97.5% respectively. Spatial analysis showed that the site with highest abundance of Ae. albopictus presented lowest species distribution (15%). This finding was associated with densities population and existence of home industry which was centered at certain sites. This such an environment provides infesting are for dengue vector, thus surveillance for controlling dengue vector in those areas is a necessary.
Objective:The study aimed to assess the association between the A1298C polymorphism of the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene and risk to osteoporosis in post-menopausal Indonesian women. Methods:After ethical approval, calcaneus bone mineral density (BMD) (T-scoring) was assessed from 194 consenting post-menopausal Indonesian women by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, and DNA of the participants was isolated from peripheral blood samples. To determine the status of A1298C polymorphism of MTHFR, isolated DNA was polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplified in 35 cycles, to result in PCR product sizes of 302 bp (1298A) and 275 bp (1298C). For fragment detection, the PCR product was subjected to electrophoresis on agarose gel. The results were statistically assessed for genotype and allotype comparison according to the T-score grouping by Chi-square analysis, assuming statistical significance at p<0.05. Results:The results show no significant association between the T-score (BMD) grouping and genotype (or allotype) of the tested polymorphism of MTHFR. The observed genotype distribution of the tested MTHFR polymorphism (A1298C) differs clearly from those previously reported, with AC as the dominant genotype in the Indonesian sample population of the present work. Conclusion:The MTHFR (A1298C) polymorphism is relatively infrequent in the Indonesian female population, and no significant association was observed between this polymorphism, bone mineral density, and osteoporotic status.
[English]: The quality of its education system determines the progress of a nation. Human resources, qualified teachers, are essential to improve the education system. Writing activities can support the development of academic skills and professional careers for teachers. This community service aimed to train teachers of a madrasah in basic writing techniques then after participating in this activity, it is expected that the teachers will have the awareness to develop professional teaching careers through writing activities. This activity was carried out at At-Tamimy Madrasah Aliyah, Praya, Central Lombok Regency. The community service method used a training approach to increase teachers' basic knowledge and skills in searching for literature and writing written frameworks. This activity showed that the teachers have skills in online reference literacy as reference material in writing. However, teachers are still not able to develop a good writing framework. Continuous writing training needs to be carried out to be motivated and have the skills to create professional careers through writing activities. Keywords: writing activities, teacher of the madrasah, scientific paper
