A study of perceived texture properties was performed on six different gel systems. The results were correlated with eighteen mechanical parameters measured on these gels. The sensorial evaluation was carried out using quantitative descriptive analysis in two locations, England and Switzerland. Data were submitted to canonical analysis, principal component analysis and then compared using a Procrustes analysis. The results show to what extent the method was reproducible, sensitive and transposable. Correlations of sensorial analysis with physical data show how texture words are used, confused and related.
Six male as attempted to identify stimuli superimposed on either of two dichoptica//y viewed rivalry patterns. Ability to influence dominance switches was confirmed with this objective procedure, by reason of a decreased e"or rate (1) with 3-sec advance knowledge as to which pattern would receive a test stimulus, and (2) with knowledge that an 83% majority of all stimuli would be presented in a given field. However, even when test stimuli were selfinitiated, dominant-field and suppressed-field scores were not close to the e"or rates predicted on the basis of monocular levels and of random guessing, respectively, indicating either misjudgments of pattern dominance or, more likely, a failure of the dominant field to totally suppress its opponent.
The objective of the Navy's Aviation Wide Angle Visual System (AWAVS) program is to recommend design criteria for future flight simulator visual systems. Research leading to this goal will have two facets: improving visual system technology, and determining the effects of visual system parameters on pilot performance and training. The experimental facility is described, and the behavioral research plans are discussed, with emphasis on the carrier landing studies to be conducted during the first phase of the program.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
