This paper considers the distrihution of lihres in ya rns and discusses the development of a model for the simulation of lihre distributions; the concept of 'virtual location ' within th e c•·oss-section domain, which may con tai n a fibre, is introduced. The distribution of fibres in real ym·ns is compared with computer-generated distributions. The distrihutions predicted hy using t.he model demonstrat.e all of th e properties of the real yams considered.The change in the fibre distribution caused by compressive forces is considered , and a model to descl"ibe the heha viour of rea l yarns is propo.~ed.
