Mental health nurses need to help Chinese family caregivers to cope with the stresses and stigmas of their relatives' mental illnesses through psychosocial education or family intervention, and to provide them with culturally-congruent care. They should also educate the public about mental health and ill health through health promotion and education.
The network of devices involved in insulin pump treatment reads and quantifies the physiological processes of Type 1 Diabetes as it performs life-sustaining functions inside and upon users' bodies. Together, these devices gather that information to produce what I call Datafied Body Doubles: numerical stand-ins for the body that recreate them as both usable and controllable for pump users and their physicians. By establishing and normalizing a system of quantification through blood glucose testing and temporally mapping body-readings into data collections, these Datafied Body Doubles fundamentally alter the conceptual and material experience of living with Diabetes. As medicallycompelled users, people with Type 1 Diabetes participate in their own datafication through their continued use of those devices-a choice which is not much of a choice at all-but their bodies are re-created and used to drive their participation in those very techno-medicalized treatments nevertheless.

Benner and Wrubel's claims that they are using Heidegger to underpin their arguments is wrong. This has the consequence that their category of ontological caring comes tumbling down and their philosophy is not as radical as they think it is.
A lot of research carried out within the context of mental-health nursing using qualitative data collection tools claims that it is hermeneutical, with usually just a short section describing the hermeneutical methodology as though it is a very broad philosophical approach. Criticisms of the latter approach more often than not concentrate on the level of the data collection tools without getting to grips with the underlying hermeneutical philosophy. This paper examines the difference between methodological and ontological hermeneutics and then gives an example of a piece of research using the latter approach. It is then argued that criticisms of the hermeneutical approach usually only concentrate on methodological hermeneutics with the consequence that they seriously misapply their criticisms if the research is using ontological hermeneutics.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
