Over all the efficiency lies in the hand of the clinician more than the technique itself.
Our intelligence is what makes us human, and robots are an extension of that quality. Robots play an important role in providing physical subordinates and even companionship in today's medical world. Orthodontics has always endeavored to improve the efficacy and efficiency of its appliances. The use of robots gives precise outcomes in less time and also reduces the risk of infection. This paper intends to collect literature from PUBMED, PUBMED central, Google Scholar and Sciencedirect on uses of robotics in orthodontics. The review enumerates the applications of robots in orthodontic and orthognathic procedures which can be easily programmed and performed with almost negligible risk of disease transmission. During the COVID-19 pandemic, robots would prove to be great assistance. The paper presented can prove to be a boon in the present scenario. The review also makes few recommendations by which orthodontists can practice better without any risk.
Impacted tooth refers to a tooth that fails to erupt into the dental arch within a specific time. Dental impaction may be the consequence of local factors. Most commonly in orthodontics, canines are the impacted teeth that is discussed widely. Hence, this review article overlooks canines and takes into account the other teeth in the oral cavity that has to be brought to the arch. The management of the severely impacted teeth is often a complex undertaking and requires the joint expertise of a number of clinicians. It is important that these clinicians communicate with each other to provide the patient with an optimal treatment plan based on scientific rational. With a lot of newer advancements coming to the field of dentistry, it has become easy for the diagnosis of the impacted teeth and treat accordingly. Once the diagnosis is clearly done, the treatment plan should be crystal clear so as to treat each and every case of impaction in the individualized manner. With newer materials being flushed into dentistry, more accurate and time saving treatment can be done without affecting the adjacent teeth. Although newer techniques are made available, the conventional methods for the correction of problem should be clearly kept in mind as that stand as the basic biomechanics. It is always a combination of all the techniques that provides the best possible result.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
