Osteogenesisin themaxillary sinusisa lesser known entity in otolaryngology, although it isput to good therapeutic use by maxillofacialsurgeons. Wepresent a case of postoperativeosseous metaplasia in the maxillary sinus that led to theformation ojmature bonewith a well-developed haversian system and bone marrow. Such a finding has not been previously reported as a complication ofendoscopic sinus surgery. This case highlightsthe importance of keeping in mind the possibility of osteogenesis within the maxillary sinus in patients who experiencea recurrence ofsymptoms following sinus surgery.
Dacryocystitis is an infection of the lacrimal sac that is usually caused by obstruction of the nasolacrimal duct. We describe a case of iatrogenic dacryocystitis that occurred secondary to the presence of an impactedpieceof a metallic dilator in the lacrimalapparatus. The foreign body was detected on dacryocystography and removed during dacryocystorhinostomy. The patient recovered uneventfully.
