Dutch Colonial built a circulation path that connected cities on the North coast of Java. How was the city linkage? The methods used are historical and grounded research methods. The explanation of the city linkages has not reached the knowledge about the city layout. The postal road passed the traditional city center through the traditional square and built the post office near it to shown its existence in the traditional city center. The existence of the post office, traditional square, and postal road until now characterize the city landscape in Java so it should be a unity in the city's conservation efforts. Keywords: Postal road; Post; Java; Conservation; Dutch.eISSN: 2398-4287 © 2019. The traditional citi center in Java has a composition of the square. The philosophy of the city is as the center of the country which is lead by the king. The regency cities in Java adopt this concept with the similar composition. In the Dutch colonial era of the 18-19th century, the postweg line is connected the regency cities in Java, with the post office located near the city center. Medan in Sumatra becomes the case to eximen how the architectural concept of the post office and Merdeka field (resembling the square in Java) as the work of the Dutch government at that time. The purpose of this study is to uncover the concept of the post office located at the zero point of the city and Merdeka Field as the square in the city center. By using the historical and grounded research, it is found that Medan is a unique city. The hybrid architectural design of the post office classifies the shape of the old city center in Medan, which has the hybrid concept which has the philosophy of meeting various cultures. The Java and Dutch concept for urban design is affected by Java, Malay, and Chinese for building design.
The current environmental crisis has made the theme of local wisdom related to the architecture and traditions of the archipelago a severe concern. Efforts to explore and rediscover functions, forms, meanings, and philosophies have been neglected due to the massive urban modernization. As an area directly adjacent to the capital city of Jakarta, the city of Bekasi is indeed inseparable from the problems of urbanization. This research focuses on the Imah Panggung and the Babaritan tradition (alms of the earth) in Kampung Kranggan, which persists today. Using qualitative methods, namely conducting in-depth observations and interviews with traditional elders, conducting descriptive analysis based on data and field findings. It can be concluded that the Imah Panggung and the Babaritan tradition have a solid relationship not only in terms of activity and function of space but also the philosophical meaning and heritage of knowledge and methods from ancestors, which are still very relevant today. The relationship between human beings, humans and nature, and humans and God are represented in the Imah Panggung architecture and the Babaritan ritual procession as the spirit of space in Kampung Kranggan.
During the Dutch colonial period, Daendeles (1808) built a 1000km postal highway from Anyer - Panarukan. Now the road is known as the pantura (north coast route). The main function is to facilitate communication between regions controlled by Daendeles. One of the buildings that influenced the construction of the postal highway was the first post office in Batavia (1746) and the second post office in Semarang (1750). In the city of Semarang, along with the development of the city to the south and the existence of road infrastructure towards the kingdom of Mataram (Surakarta and Jogjakarta), several branch post offices were built in the Bangkong area and the Post Office Jalan Dr. Wahidin. The building is the center of postal services and operations in the city of Semarang and its surroundings. However, along with the development of the postal industry process, it has pushed service rooms to be more efficient, resulting in a reduction in the need for workspaces which results in a lot of space that can be used for other functions. This opportunity to revitalize the old post office building can be integrated with the potential of the Old Town area which has been developed as a mainstay tourism destination for the city of Semarang. Taking into account this potential, the purpose of this paper is to map and inventory the architectural potential of the Semarang post office which is very urgent to do. The method used is to conduct observations and interviews in a structured manner. The focus of the study is on the potential of architecture, including architectural space and character, as well as the potential of the existing environment or area. The result of the building inventory to preserve that not only focuses on the physical building but also how the activities in it are still attached to the function of the building.
The reliability of a building, as regulated by law, is an indicator of its ability to provide safety for its occupants. In order to map the potential risks of residential buildings, a survey was conducted to assess the reliability of 94 residential units in the Batukasur village, Batulayang village, Cisarua district, based on building reliability criteria. This location was chosen due to its hilly geographic conditions and the fact that the houses were self-built by residents. The method used was a questionnaire, which was used by students to observe and interview residents to obtain information describing the level of building reliability. The results of the observation showed that the reliability level of the residential buildings reached 3.66, which is between poor and good. The lowest value was the accessibility level, which reached 3.48, while the highest was health, with a value of 3.88 on a scale of 1-5. These conditions indicate that the residential conditions are relatively good, but the low accessibility level should be noted, as it can limit mobility during the evacuation process. This condition is closely related to the level of resident participation and knowledge of disasters. Furthermore, the mapping results can be used as information for the village regarding the level of building reliability.
