National Innovations on Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) project was launched by ICAR in 2011 to develop climate-resilient agriculture technologies through strategic research. It demonstrates and reinforced to accept better practices and wide-ranging technologies for mitigating climate risk to make farming as a profitable business. The current study was carried out in the Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh, India. The sample consists of 60 farmers as beneficiaries from NICRA villages and 60 farmers as nonbeneficiaries from non-NICRA villages were selected randomly. The ex-post facto research design was used in the study. The constraints faced by the farmers for adoption of climate resilient technologies were lack of sufficient rainfall, lack of owned resources, lack of short duration and drought tolerant crop varieties, lack of knowledge about climate resilient practices, and inadequate financial support. The key suggestions given to the respondents for implementation of climate resilient technologies are the provision of technical guidance and information should be delivered on regular basis, training programs should be conducted about climate resilient practices, financial assistance should be rendered for water and soil conservation and need based technology demonstrations should be given.
Information seeking behaviour refers to the orientation of individuals in finding the different information sources and using the availed information in various circumstances. It also includes information retrieval, with its main focus is on understanding the need to seek information and process of using it. The present study deals with the information seeking behaviour of farmers of different cropping systems. The study used an ex-post facto research design. Ex-post facto research is an organised empirical study in which the researcher has no direct influence over the independent variables. A sample size of 300 was selected for the study. Information seeking behaviour was calculated by using a scale consisting of three subheads i.e., personal localite sources, personal cosmopolite sources and impersonal cosmopolite sources. It could be concluded from the findings that slightly above two-third of the farmers (67.00 per cent) had medium level of information seeking behaviour, less than one-fifth of the farmers (17.33 per cent) and only little amount of the farmers (15.67 per cent) had high level of information seeking behaviour. The study helps the various development departments related to agriculture and rural development to make relevant policies in suitable communication models.
Coconut (Cocos nucifera) originated in Indo-Malayan region is one of the most important commercial horticultural crops. It is often regarded as KALPAVRISHA, "The Tree of Heaven" as each and every part of the tree is useful for the mankind. It occupies a prominent role in moulding the social livelihood of people of East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. The district tops in area and production of coconut in the state. The present study deals with the extension strategies suggested by the coconut growers needed for enhancing the production and marketing. During the study, majority of the respondents suggested the strategies like direct marketing (71%), labour availability (67%), better transport facilities (63%), mechanization (58%), better remunerative prices (51%), providing financial subsidies (49%), promoting extension activities (47%), providing processing and storage facilities (43%) for enhancing coconut production.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
