Background: After a total glossectomy, one lost the ability to speak and swallow due to the loss of tongue mobility and the increase of space between the palate and tongue remnants. To improve swallowing by creating negative pressure, tongue and palatal drop prostheses can be utilized. This prosthesis does not restore other tongue functions such as mastication, speech articulation and resonance because the prosthesis cannot reproduce natural tongue movements. Purpose: To rehabilitate the tongue deformity due to the gun shot wound. Methods and Materials: The case report revealed the total lost of tongue of a Bangladeshi patient who cannot be able to swallow and speak. The remaining teeth still fully intact but the palatal drop and tongue prosthesis was fabricated with the silicone prosthesis. Results: Both palatal drop prosthesis and tongue prosthesis allowed the patient to increase the capacity to swallow and reduce the remaining odondus space. The speech appeared to be more intelligiable but cannot fully restore. Conclusion: The quality of life of a patient after post operative follow-up appeared to be better; however, the physiologic function of the missing organ cannot fully restored.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/cdcj.v10i1.13828City Dent. Acting out, or misbehavior, is often associated with ineffective parenting. It negatively affects children across socioeconomic backgrounds. While ineffective parenting might not solely be the blame for negative behaviors in children, parenting contributes significantly to children's behavioral outcomes. Till now there is lack of data regarding child behavior affected by parenting skill in Nepal. The aim of the study was to assess the effects of parenting skill on children behavior. In this descriptive type of cross-sectional study 369 respondents were selected by purposive sampling in some selected areas of Nepal. The mean age of the respondents was 36.14±6.69 years with 92.7% female and of them 92.1% were married. Out of 184 respondents, 45.1% gave proper childcare/love/ sufficient time to children. Among the respondents 68% had spent quality time with their children very frequently. Statistically an association was found between parenting skill (quality time with children) and different behavior of children. Rearing children always needs good parenting skills which help to change the future of the nation by producing skilled, well behaved, intelligent citizens in the days to come. As such awareness about parenting skill should be made generalized and easily accessible to all eligible couples in the country. Effective parenting has never been more important to a family's success than today.1 To engender good behaviors, parenting style needs to include developing and clarifying clear expectations. Parents should stay calm in the midst of turmoil, consistently following through with positive and negative consequences, being a positive role model. They should display corrective behaviors encouraging the children and praising their good behaviors. 2Parents finally need to build their child's brain and body. They should be provided healthy meals and snacks that model good eating habits. They need to teach them right from wrong, so they understand moral values and rules. As children grow, they seek more independence and have increasingly complex problems. 4 Nobody can imagine how the parent will start feeling by changing in their own approach and getting the good results for both them as well as whole family. 5It was found that a negative parenting style characterized by more harsh, inconsistent discipline was clearly associated with more severe child antisocial behavior. Being in the top quarter of parents using of negative discipline was associated with having twice the rate of severe child behavior problems in the clinical range (rising from 21% of children in families who didn't use it,
Objective: This descriptive type of cross sectional study was conducted to assess pattern and risk factors of bedsore in hospital admitted patients in Dhaka city with a sample size of 114. Methods: A pretested, modified, questionnaire was used to collect the data. All the data were entered and analyzed by using Statistical Package of Social Science 16.0 versions. Results: Study found that 17.5%, 41.2%, 27.2% and 14% of the respondents belonged to age group of 1-20 years, 21-40 years, 41-60 years and 61-80 years respectively with mean age 37.97 +16.909 years. Responsible diseases for bedsore were spinal cord injury (41.2%), fracture (30%), stroke (24%), unconsciousness (7.2%) and GBS (2.8%) respectively. Study revealed that common area of bedsore were back of the sacrum (57%), back of the scapula (34.2%), medial aspect of knee joint (22.8%), malleoli (21.1%), greater trochanter of femur (15.8%), external occipital protuberance (14%), olecranon process of ulna (9.6%), above the coccyx (9.6%), iliac crest (7%), spine of the scapula (3.5%), posterior superior iliac joint (2.6%) and sacro-iliac joint (1.8%) respectively. Study also found that superficial and deep type of bedsore were 58.8% and 41.2% consecutively. Besides study revealed that 26.3% of the respondents were diabetic, 31.6% obese, 28.1% suffering from malnutrition, 61.4% did not use pneumatic bed and 7.2% patients did not maintain proper positioning 2 hourly and these were the risk factors of this study. Significant association was found between type of bed sore and use of pneumatic bed (P=0.000<0.05) as well as nutritional status (P=0.004<0.05). Conclusions: Changing position and use of pneumatic bed was best methods of prevention of bedsore.
