Red tropical soils are produced by natural chemical weathering. n e y contain appreciable quantities of amorphous silica and alumina and also large propom'ons of very poorly ordered clay minerals. For this reason they are considered to be a good source ofpouolanic material and may be used as raw feed for the manufacture of cement or as cement replacement for the production of concrete. This Paper presents the results of an investigation into the engineering properties and pegormance of concrete made with a mixture of cement/pouolan, where the pozzolan consisted of two types of red tropical soil. 7he Paper highlights the strength properties and chloride ion permeability characteristics of these mixtures and discusses the beneficial effects of using red tropical soils in concrete.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
